PICTURE:
This is an EDTV. I watch about 50% HDTV using Over-The-Air antenna (Silver Sensor), and the other 50% is from basic analog cable. The HDTV picture quality has me 100% satisfied. Blacks are BLACK, all pictures are clear and crisp. And it doesn't sacrifice anything with the analog cable signal, either! DVD's are perfect, sharp, and just like they were designed to be. Programs I've recorded on Sony VCR's are 100% acceptable. This Plasma fits my needs perfectly, displays a wonderful picture regardless of the input, and was very economical to purchase. After 4 months of use, I am still ecstatic about its performance! When I purchased the Z42 I also purchased AVIA and Digital Video Essentials, expecting it to need calibration for the best Picture Quality. I haven't opened either calibration CD yet, since the picture is not lacking in any respect! The menus provide all the needed options, including "Orbiter" and "White Wash".
INSTALLATION:
Case is Silver & Gray, speakers on sides, nice stand - very nice appearance. It is installed on a corner stand in my living room - looks right at home there and no "cables to hide". Being in the corner allows me to place Silver Sensor HDTV antenna behind the Plasma, out of sight.
PLASMA FUNCTIONS:
The remote control which came with the Z42 was very capable and well-organized. But - the case of the Remote is tapered the wrong way, so the far end sits lower that the end nearest the operator. What were they thinking? The tuners (ATSC, NTSC, & QAM) are very effective and tune signals in quite quickly. The tuner provides better reception that the Set-Top box (Accurion) I had used previously. Signal reception seems very good to me - I'm using a little Silver Sensor with an inexpensive Signal Amplifier, 31 miles from towers, and all is well! There is an abundance of input connections available on the Plasma (at least for my needs). The menu selections have met my needs, and include "Orbiter" and "White Wash"

BUYING EXPERIENCE:
The buying experience was excellent but the product experience was a nightmare. Of the four months I've had the TV it stayed in the repair shop two. Zenith was of little or no help in resolving the issue. The warranty repair shop helped as much as they could by telling zenith our TV was a lemon and needed replacing. The PX was outstanding and is in the process of replacing the item with another brand. I would never recommend another zenith product.
