-----PLASMA TV INFORMATION-----
Manufacturer: Panasonic
Model: TH-42PX60U
PICTURE:
The 42" widescreen picture quality is wonderful due to the high contrast ratio, great color depth and dimension. It provides a theater-like experience.
INSTALLATION:
This plasma tv can display 29 billion colors for a superior picture. Most programming is available in HDTV, so the picture display is amazing. It also has progressive scan, video and motion pattern noise reduction, color purity optimizer, sub-pixel controller and surround sound capabilities.
PLASMA FUNCTIONS:
The tv only needs a single cable to carry both digital video and audio at the same time, so multiple cables are not necessary. It can share digital photos with a Lumix digital camera and built-in SD card slot.

PICTURE:
I bought the 42PHD8UK in Nov 2005. Input is a Comcast Cable HD cable box and a DVD player. The picture quality of non-HD signals is crisp, vivid, excellent color tones and on a scale of 1 - 10 I'd rate the picture quality a 7/8. I use the auto settings on the plasma. Very pleased. The HD channels provided by Comcast display unbelievable pictures, which makes the non-HD broadcasts seem very inferior. The HD is close to the equivalent of looking outside a very clean window - color, clarity, contrast, color tones, black backgrounds are simply striking. I've only watch a couple of DVD's thus far and with a modest DVD player the picture is dramatic, especially action scenes.
INSTALLATION:
The plasma display is simple and sleek. I bought the table stand made for this model which is very sturdy and stable and placed the plasma on a stand which i found on the web. Very nice look.
PLASMA FUNCTIONS:
The remote is fine for my use; i dont make adjustments - just turn it on and off. I have separate remotes for the cable box and Denon receiver which outputs the sound. I need to figure out how to consolidate the operations of all three devices, maybe the DVD player too, into one remote. My biggest problem is picking up the wrong remote when i want to turn something on or off.

-----CUSTOMER INFORMATION-----

-----PLASMA TV INFORMATION-----
Manufacturer: Panasonic
Model: TH-37PX60U
PICTURE:
The picture on this new model out performs the original TH-37PX50U by far. Contrast, brightness, Color, High Definition image are improved here. All of the input signals look great on this TV, but the high Definition HDMI (Digital Video connection) puts on a stellar image that in my oppinion is the best video connection in the industry. Comcast Hi Def cable is fantastic, and so is the up-converted DVD image from my Sony HDMI up-converting DVD player. The player will display your average 480 interlaced DVD as a 1024 x 720 progessive image. And does it look great. The only improvement that the new actual High Definition DVD players will be able to offer over this player is slightly improved color and less compression of the DVD image. One of the great benefits of this TV is the "Vivid" picture setting. It now looks "Vivid" improving the picture quality and not "oversaturated like the old model.
INSTALLATION:
I used the "Duck Foot" stand that was included with the television. It seems stable and supports the weight well. Some people don't like the design, but I think it is safer by distributing the weight of the television evenly over a lager surface. The design of the televison itself is more futuristic and looks cooler thatn the previous model. The 50U had a rather "Plain Jane" look to it. This new one looks more expensive and sophisticated.
PLASMA FUNCTIONS:
The menu is just like the old one - very easy to use and easy to navigate. The TV can almost be set up without ever cracking the manual (Although I DO reccomend that you read the manual at some point)
The remote is re-designed makking the buttons easier to find. the volume and channel buttons are ENORMOUS. There is an SD card activation button so that you can view pictures off of an SD card (Secure Digital Camera card). The specs of the TV from the Panasonic site state that you can view pictures taken with a "Lumix" camera. I don't know if the television will read cards from other camera brands.

PICTURE:
The DVI to HDMI connection from my Dish HD Receiver Model 811 and the Coax Cable from the Standard Receiver from Dish Satellite gives a great performance on both HD and SD signals. I use the alternate inputs to switch from SD to HD on the Dish Remote (button labeled SD/HD). The sound quality is excellent without an external surround sound system. The system provides excellent performance in fast moving sports like Tennis and basketball, especially in HD.
INSTALLATION:
Table stand installation with middle of the screen at eye level. The table stand is durable and easy to assemble.
PLASMA FUNCTIONS:
I use the alternate inputs to switch from SD to HD on the Dish Remote (button labeled SD/HD). Only negative I can see is there does not seem to be any setting for Blue Screen which is required for my Kid's Karaoke Machine

-----CUSTOMER INFORMATION-----
Name: Erik
Location: USA/FL
-----PLASMA TV INFORMATION-----
Manufacturer: Panasonic
Model: TH-42PWD8UK
PICTURE:
On component, the image is imaculate. Differences I have noticed from comparison to HDTV models:
- Image shows some dark scenes with brilliant clarity, even more so then its upgraded hdtv counterparts.
- normal VGA input works easily with any computer with a VGA out connect.
Con's:
- After 7 months of use at around 15 hours per day, the image has lost some brightness. Unballanced white sphere aparent in the middle of the screen that doesn't seem to have been caused by overburn.
- Compatible with native resolution but very uneasy about accepting any others from computer input. (yyy x 1080 etc. )
- Burning smell from unit after over 7 hours of continuous use. (Monitor kept clean and smell is not from dust or debree burning etc.)
INSTALLATION:
I used a floor stand with 2 layers for stereo and reciever components.
Two JBL Cabaret dual 15" speakers with 2 horns powered with Samson S700 amp and Gemini mixer for back speakers. Bose 321 for front 3. Plugged in components:
- Custom computer with Tv tuner and software tivo through vga Input. (At native res. clarity compared to a 19" lcd at 1600x1200 is very close. ) well, close in clarity but kicks to play games on a 42" monitor then a 19.
- Xbox, DVD player and PS2 connected through Component.
- Digital Cable through computer and reciever through S-Video.
This is the best Tv I have read about at the time I baught it. I did extensive research before finally purchasing this plasma, and at the time, and even now, this is the BEST EDTV on the market. Wether watching TV, using it as a computer monitor, commercial advertising with multi-monitor setup, or even just house video games, this will do the trick.
PLASMA FUNCTIONS:
Remote control is made for a commercial use as it lacks the show of other units remotes. It makes up for it by making all necessary screen operations easy to navigate without a crowded laptop like remote.
Menu's are complicated to use, especially the screensaver settings and some of the picture settings are not explained very well in the instructions. (ex. White Balance settings)

PICTURE:
The picture is bright and clear. I have Direct TV and it looks great. Digital DVD is even better! VCR tapes looks good as well.
INSTALLATION:
The black casing helps it blend into the surroundings. I have it installed above my firepalce mantle in a custom made entertainment unit surrounding my hearth. When it is off it looks like a window looking outside at night.
PLASMA FUNCTIONS:
The menus, remote, options, and input are all easy to use after a little bit of playing around with it. I was able to program the plasma functions into my Denon AV receiver remote control, so the Panasonic remote is in a drawer.

-----CUSTOMER INFORMATION-----

-----PLASMA TV INFORMATION-----
Manufacturer: Panasonic
Model: TH-42PX50U
PICTURE:
The picture is crisp on the screen. The 1,024 x 768 pixel resolution is unbeleivable because you cannot tell that it is pixels at all, it could be a moving silver halide photo beamed down onto my living room wall. It is that good.
HD reception makes it even more lifelike, but is not really necessary because the definition and range of color are so much better than my old tv or my IBM laptop (which I sometimes watch movies on while riding the commuter bus). The technology of the picture is amazing, I am not sure I am enough of a conneusier to fully appreciate the complexities of the TH-42PX50U. The contrast adjustments are minute, you can really fine tune the picture to your own perfection. The digital connection is supereasy to operate, even my mom can do it!
INSTALLATION:
I wish I had one for my bedroom too!
I have this on a slick looking tv stand and the wholething looks like it belongs in a design magazine. If you have one of these you will suddenly realize that everyone always wants to party at your house. I get hdtv for this because this tv is a high performace machine that deserves highperformace data input.
PLASMA FUNCTIONS:
The designers of this unit thought of everything! I love that the cable card is part of the unit so I dont have to have a cable box cluttering up my shiny new tv. The sound is very very high quality, and the eliptical speakers just plain look good too.
The one issue I have with it is the weight - at over 100 pounds it is a little tricky to move and lift onto a tv stand or wherever you want to put it. On the other hand, this is a pretty minor details and once you get it into your home I doubt you'll want to move it much. Otherwise - it doesn't get any better than this, folks!

PICTURE:
For an EDTV the picture is as good as it were a HDTV unit. DVD movies look absolutely incredible. Analog TV is decent given the signal.
I truly enjoy the details in dark movie settings and the realism, color life-like appearance. I cannot say enough about the positive impression this set has left on us after we searched and compared different technologies and similar products from Zenith, Samsung, Maxent and others.
INSTALLATION:
For now the unit is on a pedestal but it will go on the wall soon enough. Aesthetically it is very appealing and contemporary. It should fit most contemporary and modern room designs.
PLASMA FUNCTIONS:
The remote control is simple to operate and the menu is very easy to understand. In less than ten minutes I knew how to operate the set.

The picture is great. I get a sharp clear pic just from my cable box. The dvd is awesome as well. I could see detailed things I never saw with my big screen.
INSTALLATION:
I placed it on a new stand since my wall is not prewired for a wall mount I chose to do it this way. I personally think it looks better on a stand rather the wall mount option.
PLASMA FUNCTIONS:
The remote is an attractive and very user friendly. Its not complicated like the other remotes on the market. The input selection is simple to use just push input and the number you want and your there. The remote even lights up so its really easy to use when the lights are down.

PICTURE:
The picture is awesome! First hookup was routed through my AV receiver and out to the screen with one composite connection. Analog cable signals were no better than my CRT unit. But the digital movie channel signals were outstanding. DVD hookup was the same and the picture was excellent. The first movie that we came across on the STARZ movie channel was Finding Nemo. What an explosion of color! Next day, Cable Company came out to install the HDTV box (switched out the digital box). HDTV signals are outstanding! The box was connected using the three-plug component/RBG with BNC connectors and to my surprise; the digital TV channels (HBO, STARZ etc) were better than before. Down side now is that I can't connect my DVD player using the component/RBG inputs to utilize it in progressive scan mode. I will probably order another one for the third slot.
INSTALLATION:
I love the sleek, simplistic look of the professional series. The charcoal gray unit and tabletop stand sit atop a glass entertainment stand in the family room. Surround sound speakers are spread around the room with the center channel speaker on the table.
PLASMA FUNCTIONS:
I haven't fully explored the options yet. The automatic aspect ratio function is a bit annoying. The picture adjusts and flickers too much for my taste. For now it is set on JUST. So far the remote and various menus is easy to use. I'm not big on remote control units but I did expect something a little more aesthetically pleasing than what came out of the box.

PICTURE:
The picture is fabulous. The colors are vibrant and beautiful. I am very satisfied. I tried the display with S-video cables first and was impressed with the picture. I was told that component video cables made it look even better, so I purchased them for $16 from Fry's and they made a big difference. The picture is much sharper and the blacks and other colors are much better. The picture is beautiful. I am told that DVI-D cables make for an even better picture, so I ordered the DVI plug-in board ($110) option and the DVI-D cables ($17) from Bottom Line Telecommunications. I can't wait to see the difference, although I'm not sure how much better it can look.
INSTALLATION:
The display is a nice black frame. I hung the TV on the wall with the optional mounting bracket. It was easier than I thought it would be to hang, and it looks great on the wall replace the big entertainment center I was able to get rid of.
PLASMA FUNCTIONS:
The remote is medieval, but functional for the display itself. You must have a separate satellite or cable tuner to control the channels. The on-screen menus are very good.
For the money (paid $1995) this is a great 42" High Definition solution. The picture with the HD service from Comcast is Great. It's like looking at something other than TV that most of us are used to. DVDs look great as well.

----PRODUCT REVIEW----
Q: Describe the picture of the plasma TV/LCD monitor in terms of clarity, color reproduction, contrast and brightness.
A: Clarity, color reproduction, contrast and brightness are all excellent. Out of the box, the picture settings needed very little adjustment from the factory default settings. I find the 'JUST' aspect mode on the Panasonic is great for NTSC signals with the 16:9 screen format.
Q: What are your general comments on your Plasma TVs/LCD Monitors? How do you like it?
A: The picture quality is fantastic, as good or better than any, comparable resolution, large screen, direct view CRT or projection TV I have seen. I researched plasma monitors for about 6 months including: reviews at the DTVCity and Plasma TV Buying Guide websites as well as live auditions at several retailers before making my selection. I had concerns about heat build-up, contrast / brightness levels and image sharpness retention in rapid action scenes, but was pleasantly surprised that none of these concerns were issues. The plasma picture on the flat screen maintains sharpness even at the periphery, resulting in a much better viewing experience.
Q: How would you best describe the design and looks of the Plasma TV/LCD Monitor?
A: Hi-Tech elegance! The Panasonic has a dark charcoal frame and matching stand which compliments my other components well. Inspite of the large screen size, the slim monitor design and its light weight make the unit easily incorporated into an entertainment center as well as being asthetically pleasing.
Q: What is the Plasma TV/LCD used for?
A: Home Living Room
Q: Please explain how the Plasma TV/LCD Monitor was installed.
A: The monitor is mounted on its stand and secured to a sliding, rotatable shelf as part of a custom designed, in-wall, entertainment center. The shelf can be slid out from the wall and the monitor rotated left or right for optimum viewing from any part of the room. When not in use the shelf can be retracted so that the monitor is flush with the wall and becomes quite unobstrusive.
Q: Where did you purchase your Plasma TV/LCD Monitor? How was your buying experience?
A: DTVCity. The buying experience was excellent. Prices were very competitive and sales personnel were knowledgeable and courteous. They helped me put together and complete video package to meet my needs including: monitor, stand, cables and a service contract. Although the monitor was temporarily out of stock when I placed my order, the complete shipment was made within 10 days and took only 7 days in transit to arrive safely in Hawaii. Just in time for Christmas! I was notified by e-mail at time of shipment and given a tracking number so that I was able to track the shipment in transit. I felt shipment of such an expensive, fragile item was handled very smoothly.

----PRODUCT REVIEW----
Q: Describe the picture of the plasma TV/LCD monitor in terms of clarity, color reproduction, contrast and brightness.
A: Incredible! Right out of the box with no tinkering I found the picture to be fantastic (I previously had a 35" Sony CRT, and my roomate had a 53" Panasonic projection--the plasma beats both hands down). The clarity is crystal clear from corner to corner--you lose nothing no matter where you look on the screen (unlike most tv's where the edges and corners lose clarity in my opinion). The set comes with three separate picture settings -- they adjust the brightness and sharpness for various viewing conditions (they are also adjustable for personal taste and will save your changes). FYI, I run an S-Video feed for Direct TV and component hookup for DVD. I watched Apocalypse Now for the set's maiden voyage and was duly impressed. This is a movie which has intense colors (green jungles, red explosions) and dark blacks (interior of Kurtz's compound) -- the set performed beautifully
Q: What are your general comments on your Plasma TVs/LCD Monitors? How do you like it?
A: I love it. Can't imagine using anything else, except for a 50" plasma. I had also purchased an HDTV receiver thinking I would want even the few channels available to take advantage of the set, however, regular broadcasts (Direct TV) and DVD's look so good I returned the HD box until more becomes available. Filling the 16x9 screen really changes the viewing experience to more of a theater feeling. You can definitely notice some distortion or loss of clarity on some of the aspect settings, but the monitor has a setting that essentially only adjusts the aspect of the sides of the picture and does not distort the center--this works great!
Q: How would you best describe the design and looks of the Plasma TV/LCD Monitor?
A: I hung mine on the wall and it changes the look of the entire room. Simply beautiful, on or off. It is like a piece of art and really draws the eye to it even when off.
Q: Please explain how the Plasma TV/LCD Monitor was installed.
A: I used the wall mount. It was quite simple to hang. I drilled holes in the wall and ran the cables behind the wall--highly recommend it for asthetic reasons. Gives the monitor a very clean art-like look.
Q: Where did you purchase your Plasma TV/LCD Monitor? How was your buying experience?
A: PlasmaDepot.com Experience was great. They were very responsive to my anxious calls concerning delivery date. The monitor arrived within 3 days of PlasmaDepot receiving it!

Q: Describe the picture of the plasma TV/LCD monitor in terms of clarity, color reproduction, contrast and brightness.
A: Excellent color reproduction, clarity and contrast. Nothing more can be said!
Q: What are your general comments on your Plasma TVs/LCD Monitors? How do you like it?
A: This Plasma TV is truly amazing! Definitely money well spent! DVD's movies just jump out of the screen at you. I hooked up my home entertainment system and watched it come alive.
Q: How would you best describe the design and looks of the Plasma TV/LCD Monitor?
A: The design is very modern and cool looking. Much prefer the all-black look compared with the silver systems.
Q: Where did you purchase your Plasma TV/LCD Monitor? How was your buying experience?
A: I would definately buy from DVTCity again. My original Plasma arrived damaged (not their fault) and obviously I was very concerned. They immediately sent me out a repacement (shipped same day again!) and took care of the claim with the shipping company.

----PRODUCT REVIEW----
Q: Describe the picture of the plasma TV/LCD monitor in terms of clarity, color reproduction, contrast and brightness.
A: I am very impressed with the color reproduction, including and especially the black, of this unit. Seen side-by-side with my former CRT television, the difference is striking and immediate. The same could be said regarding contrast. The factory setting for brightness seems ideal, although the environment of my unit prevents bright sunlight from being any factor. The viewing angle is gratifyingly wide, which is a real plus in my particular setup.
Q: What are your general comments on your Plasma TVs/LCD Monitors? How do you like it?
A: Although I had conducted fairly extensive in-store investigations of plasma televisions--something not really possible until recently--there is no substitute for seeing a working model in one's own entertainment room. My wife (as opposed tomy very enthusiastic son)was dubious that the picture could be so much better as to warrant the expense. She has since changed her mind.
Q: How would you best describe the design and looks of the Plasma TV/LCD Monitor?
A: This particular unit is rather minimalist--plain black metal frame with only the power button and LED visible (the button barely so). Obviously appearance is to one's taste, but I find that the absence of bells and whistles allows the viewer to concentrate on the picture display itself, which is the realreason for getting one of these anyway. The unit and its wall mount allow for power and input connections through the back and out of sight. Although my setup did not permit using this feature, I appreciate its availability.
Q: Please explain how the Plasma TV/LCD Monitor was installed.
A: My son and I installed the unit using the wall mount which DTVCity also shipped. I was frankly a bit leery about installation as I had to mount the unit on a brick-and-stone wall in my entertainment room. The stones protrude from the brickface, making spacers mandatory and thus increasing the need for very deep drilling into the brick for added stability. Fortunately the mounting proceeded very easily. I would complain, though, about the incredible brevity of the mounting bracket sheet (it can hardly be called a manual). I suppose it presumes that anyone buying a plasma TV(and mount) will understand the necessities of proper anchorage, but I still think it would be useful to very boldly remind installers that,in cases of woodframe mounting, a studs-only mount is imperative and,in the case of masonry mounting, mollly-bolts will not provide adequate strength. Finally, the locking latch on the wall mount is poorly designed. It easily slips between the TV unit and basic wall mount as the TV is hung, making it bothersome to reach behind and grasp it for latching. And the latch itself does not really grip. That is to say,it seems more of a reminder than a true latch.
Q: Where did you purchase your Plasma TV/LCD Monitor? How was your buying experience?
A: I bought the TV online from DTVCity and am very favorably impressed despite the problem with my initial shipment. That shipment arrived damaged. DTV ships quite carefully and the crating was completely intact but, as I later discovered, the "blue beads" to be checked on the Tip-and-Tell indicator in fact refer to the indicator's background. I was looking for beads,or even fluid, and did not realize that an all-blue indicator was a sign of trouble. I see that DTV's current mailings to customers go to some pains to describe exactly what to look for--a welcome improvement. In any event, DTV was thoroughly professional when I contacted them to alert them to the damaged unit. A replacement was sent straightaway--which arrived in fine shape--and DTV's representative remains in touch with me to ensure proper and orderly return of the damaged unit.
Q: Your Comments About your Buying Experience:
A: I think the most essential ingredient in buying such a large-ticket item online (or by phone, for that matter) is confidence in the professionalism and reputation of the dealer.DTVCity did not have the best price for this unit, nor did it carry the HDTV receiver that I wanted to purchase with it. Nevertheless, I decided to give my business to DTVCity because of its prominently posted replacement and return policy, its pains in displaying its BBB credentials, and testimonies (available onsite and elsewhere) from satisfied customers. I am to date very happy with my experience with DTV and its representatives.

----PRODUCT REVIEW----
Q: Describe the picture of the plasma TV/LCD monitor in terms of clarity, color reproduction, contrast and brightness.
A: We find the clarity and color to be superb. Much better than we ever anticipated. We had selected the Panasonic based on the reviews in DTV City website. We had been considering the Sony. We were concerned about Plasma TV's regarding the brightness but find absolutely no isuues with the Panasonic. Frankly, I couldn't ask for more!!
Q: What are your general comments on your Plasma TVs/LCD Monitors? How do you like it?
A: WE LOVE IT. The first movie we watched was a wide screen version of "Analyze This" and it filled the entire screen. We felt like we were part of the movie. We are really happy we decided to buy now rather than wait. We now get to enjoy it rather than saying "someday" we'll own a Plasma.
Q: How would you best describe the design and looks of the Plasma TV/LCD Monitor?
A: We have the black case and stand. We designed a built in book case and TV area for the set and it fits and looks just perfect. I tried to enclose a digital photo but was unable to do so
Q: What is the Plasma TV/LCD used for?
A: Home Living Room
Q: Please explain how the Plasma TV/LCD Monitor was installed.
A: We are using the Panasonic TV stand set atop a built in tv / bookshelf / display cabinet next. The TV looks part of the 'Built In
Q: Where did you purchase your Plasma TV/LCD Monitor? How was your buying experience?
A: We bought it from DTVCity off the internet. We had a very helpful sales person who assisted me through the purchase decision and later with some questions on the installation. I would highly recommend DTVCity - in fact I happen to mention to a co worker in Atlanta that I bought the Plasma off the internet and he told me he did likewise - also from DVD City. He bought a Sony and was also pleased with the buying experience.
Q: Your Comments About your Buying Experience:
A: Actually as stated above we were most pleased. We returned the speakers because they didn't fit well in the spot we designed. Richard assisted us with no problems.

We enjoy the picture immensely. It has beautiful colors and clarity. My biggest objection to it is my wife loves to watch it and spends too much time in front of the television.
INSTALLATION:
We ordered it with a stand so it sits upright. We had our living room remodeled and had a space of 47" X 30.5 " X 21" set aside for this television. It matched the guidelines for space suggested by the manufacturer. The electrical and antennae hookups come into the rear of this space. It looks very attractive.
PLASMA FUNCTIONS:
We bought a surround sound system and wired the sound from the TV through it so it has to be on and set correctly to hear sound from the television. The local channels are accessed through a VCR. Consequently we are using three remotes, one supplied by Dish Network, one for the surround sound tuner and one for the VCR. I have been told however that this system can be improved so we don't need so many remotes.

My picture looks amazing. I have watched HD, played Xbox, watched a DVD, and watched regular TV. They are all phenomenal. Since I have only ten HD channels I decided to get an EDTV. I can't tell the difference between and HD and ED even when they are side by side in a store( I have tried looking at two identical 42 inch Fujitsus)
INSTALLATION:
I like the look of the professional model Panasonic better than the consumer version. I have it mounted on a wall using generic wall mount. I paid a local installer $100 to hang it as I am not handy with that stuff.
PLASMA FUNCTIONS:
I rarely use the remote since i have a Harmony remote. Besides turning it on and off the only action i perform is to change inputs which a monkey could do.

Desribe-Input-Signals:
I have not yet tried a true high definition signal into the screen, but component hook-ups from DVD including Playstation2 have proven brilliant, with excellent contrast. DVI hook-up is pending. Broadcast antenna and satellite receiver in SDTV signals have been fair.
Desribe-Plasma-Installation:
The display is mounted within a homemade entertainment center on a wall mounted swivel system. Very clean look to mounting system and screen.
Desribe-Plasma-Functions:
The on-screen menu is simple to use, as is the remote. The input selection is basic, and the physical layout of inputs are easy to access and interchange.
Desribe-Buying-Experience:
I purchased the screen on-line from PlasmaDepot. It arrived about a week later in perfect condition. The website and its links were most helpful in learning about plasma displays, and multiple third party reviews supported the vendor as reliable.

Q: Describe the picture of the plasma TV/LCD monitor in terms of clarity, color reproduction, contrast and brightness.
A: Color is great, the blacks are great in the picture, but the bars on either side or on top and bottom are a bit grey. Only having the TV a few days, and not watching a lot of it in general, it makes it a bit difficult to compare. The brightness is overwhelmingly clear and provides tons of lght and color. There appear to be no differences in contrast between this monitor and my previous 32" CRT TV. The clarity is so good that with an older movie (Lost in Space 1998), the greaphics seems almost childish at some points. Technology has come so far in that field, but it is almost unnoticeable in a CRT.
Q: What are your general comments on your Plasma TVs/LCD Monitors? How do you like it?
A: I love the monitor. It is a great addition to my home theater set-up. It sits almost flat to the wall, even tilted. At first, I though that a TV hang 3-5" from the wall would look stupid, but it fits very nicely. You don't even seem to notice that it is there.
Q: How would you best describe the design and looks of the Plasma TV/LCD Monitor?
A: The design and looks are fairly plain. It looks like a big TV screen. I actually overwhelmingly prefer the Pioneer Elite PRO 1000's looks and style, but the color repro was not near as good and the price was significantly more due to the Urushi finish. I would like future models to be a bit more stylish since it is almost a piece of art.
Q: What is the Plasma TV/LCD used for? A: Bedroom Q: Please explain how the Plasma TV/LCD Monitor was installed.
I installed it. I built a wall using 2x6's in an existing TV niche built into my home. I then mounted the bracket to the newly built wall and placed the TV in the bracket.
Q: Where did you purchase your Plasma TV/LCD Monitor? How was your buying experience?
A: DTVCity.com - The experience was phenomenal........I would highly recommend to anyone looking for high-end video monitors to purchase from Laura at DTVCity.com. She was extremely knowledgeable and resourceful. I am 100% completely satisfied with this vendor!

Q: Describe the picture of the plasma TV/LCD monitor in terms of clarity, color reproduction, contrast and brightness.
A: The clarity is average when viewing regular cable tv using an analog box. In fact, it may be deemed poor considering it accentuates the defects in the broadcast and i get Humbars on some stations. HOWEVER, when using my DVD player - the TV is absolutely MAGINFICENT! The sound, the colors, the clarity, brightness.... ALL just plain AWESOME!
Q: What are your general comments on your Plasma TVs/LCD Monitors? How do you like it?
A: The Panasonic 50' Plamsa TV is truly magnificent. It is just so impressive and awe inspiring hanging on the wall in my bedroom. In fact, I spent the entire day just viewing movies on this wonderful piece of equipment.
Q: How would you best describe the design and looks of the Plasma TV/LCD Monitor?
A: Like I said above - the design is sleek and just incredibly impressive when you see it hanging on the wall. It is truly grand and makes a powerful statement.

I'll have to admit, the thought of making a six-thousand dollar plus purchase over the internet was quite daunting, but I must say the entire process, from placing my order with Brent at DTV City, to powering on my Panasonic TH-50PHD6UY 50" plasma monitor, was a pleasure from start to finish.
The staff at DTV City is knowledgeable, courteous, thorough, and professional. They answered all of my questions completely and put my mind at ease from the start. The plasma monitor was shipped with a delivery service that specializes in the transport of high-value, sensitive electronic equipment. It was delivered on time, and not only did the delivery person not object to my inspecting the monitor prior to signing for it, he actually HELPED me inspect it!!
The Panasonic TH-50PHD6UY is the finest 50" plasma display on the market. The picture is precise, with deep, realistic color. I couldn't't be happier. One of my first viewing experiences was inviting two neighbor couples over to watch the Texas vs. Arkansas football game in high definition. It was fantastic!!
I highly recommend Brent and the staff at DTV City. You won't be disappointed.

PICTURE:
Overall, the panel has met or exceeded my expectations.
I have it set up with two composite/S-video inputs, one each for my DirecTV/TiVo box and my ReplayTV (connected to a DirecTV receiver). I'm experimenting with composite versus S-video, but haven't found a clear winner yet. I've also adjusted the picture somewhat based on various web forum input to reduce brightness, contrast, and color to extend panel life and smooth out the SD satellite input. Viewed from about 10-12 feet the picture is as good as my old 27" tube set, but much larger (obviously!). The Panasonic "just" or "auto" modes do a pretty good job stretching the image to fit the 16:9 screen without making it look obviously distorted or losing too much of the picture.
I've got a new Sony DVD with progressive scan component outputs connected to the component inputs. Even with almost no picture adjustment the picture is just awesome! A DVD I have made from an IMAX film gives incredible detail and smoothness, even from viewing as close as 8 feet.
I don't have a true High Definition source (yet!), so I can't comment on that mode, but if the DVD is as good as it is, then HD input should be great, too.
INSTALLATION:
The display is installed in our living room on a Panasonic pedestal stand as a temporary measure until we decide just where to mount the articulating wall mount we purchased with the display. Our sitting position is slightly off center to the spot on the wall where it will be mounted, so the ability to have the display at an angle to the wall was a plus.
The display looks great even when off with it's subtle charcoal color border. It looks even better when it's on (of course!).
PLASMA FUNCTIONS:
The remote is simple but has the necessary functions easily at hand. I use the TiVo remote for almost everything as it will also control the display's power, input selection, and volume. Only when I need to adjust the display picture settings or aspect ratio do I use the display remote.
The menus are simple and easy to follow, even for things such as picture settings.
The display came with inputs for PC (RGB), Component/RGB, and composite/S-video. I purchased an optional input module so I could have two composite/S-video inputs. I can easily replace this with a DVI/HDCP module in the future when (not if) I go to HD satellite. I like this flexibility.
The input selection is simple, but I wish it would skip inputs with no signal on them. I don't have a PC connected to the RGB connector and leave the DVD player turned off most of the time, but you need to cycle through all the inputs to get from composite input #2 to #1. There is a shortcut if you use the display remote where you can select the PC input directly, then press "input" once to get composite #1, but I can't do this from the TiVo remote.
Most of my complaints are really more nit picking, as overall I think this display has great picture and input/up-conversion flexibility. I am very happy with it.

I needed the tv for christmas. I ordered quite close to the date and was anxious to receive it on time. I was pleasantly surprised to receive the set the next day!!
Found a defect with the set two weeks later, to do with a line of static on the screen. A new set was delivered promptly, no questions asked.

BUYING EXPERIENCE:
I was very pleased with the entire process from ordering to delivery. I was a bit nervous to be ordering such an expensive product from an online dealer. I did a lot of research and DTVCity was recommended as a very good company on several "how to buy a plasma tv" web sites. Most importantly they were an authorized Panasonic dealer. My research indicated that it was important to buy from an authorized dealer to insure that you really received a new and unused TV, and one that the factory warranty would be honored. I priced the plasma TV from many different sites, and the cheapest prices were only from dealers that were not factory authorized. DTVCity.com was the best price from any of the other authorized dealers. From my thinking it was worth the price difference to buy from an authorized dealer, as this was an expensive product. The DTVCity representative on the phone was very helpful in answering my many questions. He made me more comfortable in my decision to buy my tv from an online dealer and more specifically DTVCity.
Everything worked out just as promised with the delivery right on schedule. The instructions for delivery were most helpful and gave some comfort that we would know how to insure everything was OK with the TV. It's been over a month now and the TV is just great. I will be looking to buy my next plasma TV from DTVCity
PRODUCT FEEDBACK:
The Panasonic TH-42PX25U/P plasma TV is really great. We can't believe how sharp and vibrant the picture is. HD is unbelievable. We really like the incorporation of all the tv components in the one unit. There are some really neat PIP features as well. I am very pleased with our selection. This is a really great product. I found that it is well worth the price. A great value. The pricing makes it an even better deal than buying from a local dealer. Also I liked no sales tax. Again, great product for a really great price.

Desribe-Input-Signals:
The picture is outstanding when watching a high definition broadcast. The color, brightness and clarity are significantly better than on a regular set. When watching a standard definition picture off of Dish Network, the color and brightness are still very good but picture quality suffers a bit.
Desribe-Plasma-Installation:
The display is like a piece of art. I have it hanging over my fireplace and it looks great whether it is on or off. It is a focal point of conversation when we have people over.
Desribe-Plasma-Functions:
The remote control is fairly user friendly although my wife will say that she still doesn't understand it. I did not have to read the manual to be able to get through most of the functionality of the remote. The menu options are also straighforward and don't require the user to study the manual.
Desribe-Buying-Experience:
I purchased the screen from DTV City. I purchased from them because they were located in Atlanta where I live. Because of this, I was able to drive down to their store myself and bring the screen home in my SUV. They were very friendly and the purchase went smoothly. When I arrived to pick up the screen, I decided against buying the mounting brackets from them and I received a revised invoice from them via email the next day with the appropriate credit.

Desribe-Input-Signals:
The picture in the non-digital stations is lousy. Part of the problem maybe the hook-ups, but it might also be the signal. I've had Comcaste out to my Dad's apartment twice to look at the hook-ups, but their installers seem not tu understand digital. Right now its hooked up only with component leads, and the signal suffers badly in non-digital, especiall the local analog stations. But even the digital stations image is only so-so. The Hi-Def stations, however, INHD, look great, however.
Desribe-Plasma-Installation:
See above; three component leads now. Actually, when the set originally was installed, the first Comcaste guy out set me up with an S-Video cable as well, but the second comcaste tech I had out to look at the set, uninstalled the s-video, and left me with only the componenet video hook ups.
Desribe-Plasma-Functions:
This set was purchased for my father's apartment. He has severe vision problems, and, at age 91, obvious cognitive problems. I thought the larger and sharper image of a Plasma set would be great for him. I didn't realize that operating the TV would require two remote, and switching stations would require switching back and forth between inputs. The menu and other options are too many for him, and maybe for me, since I only watch the set with him at his apartment, and truthfully, long for the day when watching TV was as easy as pressing one button, and using a very simple remote control.
Desribe-Buying-Experience:
Plasma Depot, via on-line. Set arrived in fine condition. I was nervous about purchainsg such a large item over the internet, but it worked out fine. I would do it again, absolutely.

PICTURE:
All comments are from a newbie to plasma TVs and home theater.
The TV is connected to cable via the cable card (I am not using a HD receiver/digital receiver provided by the cable company). The coaxial cable from the wall connects directly to the back of the unit. The picture from normal programming (non-HD) at a 4:3 ratio is slightly but noticeably worse than a tube TV. If the picture is set to fill the entire 16:9 screen (via full, just or zoom modes) the picture quality is worse (I find the picture quality tolerable and watch normal programming is this mode). The picture quality in normal programming is grainy and blotchy (it's like a digital picture that's zoomed in too close). The picture quality in HD programming and DVD (Sony progressive scan DVD player via component) is awesome...the picture is bright, sharp, absolutely spectacular! Cable TV and DVD are the only inputs to the TV.
INSTALLATION:
The plasma looks absolutely fabulous (although I must say that it looks quite large compared to my previous 27" Sony tube). The plasma is installed on the included pedestal and sits on a low long TV stand. The wires are hidden behind the stand and is tucked behind the TV stand. The other audio/video components sits adjacent to it. The plasma completes our "modern" living room. The room looks simple and clean.
PLASMA FUNCTIONS:
QUALITY RATING: 9
- the picture in picture (PIP) does not work with HD progamming; only works when both pictures are non-HD
- menu system is simple, easy to use and fairly intuitive
- remote control is fairly nice (light, comfortable, buttons light up); it is able to control over devices from other manufacturers (but not completely programmable); the remote sensor and/or remote itself is not very receptive (I sometimes have to aim the remote)
- there is a slight pause when channel surfing (not sure if it is the TV, cable card, cable company, HD related)...this did not occur with my previous tube tv
- the built-in speakers are more than sufficient for everyday primetime viewing

PICTURE:
Overall picture is excellent. I also have a Mitsubishi platinum 55" CRT projection TV. The mits is in my main theater room and the panny is in the bedroom. I have a cable service with analog, digital 480i and high definition(720p/1080i depending on the channel) channel. I use component cables for digital viewing and s video for the analog. The imaging of the mits is quite excellent and perhaps slightly better than the Panasonic on analog signals, however, color, brightness and off angle viewing are all so much better on the Panasonic that my wife and I prefer it on analog or digital material. The HD picture(discovery and PBS HD) is incredible, as close as possible to being there. HD movies(somewhat compressed from true 720p I'd bet) are also excellent. The Panasonic processing of the 480i digital signal is quite excellent. I have an HDMI DVD player with 720p up conversion (Toshiba SD5970?) and a HDMI input card as well. The DVD signal is also very good, though I would say that the HD signal is noticeably better than HDMI DVD and the cable signal utilizes all pixels with no back bars. I would recommend any potential buyer check the ED pwd7uy model as the price is incredible and the picture is as good or better on all but true HD(1080i or 720p HDTV, not HD movies that are generally compressed). I only decided to shell out the extra $1200 because of my expectation of more and more HD channels(especially sports, discovery, travel). If you do not plan to subscribe to a HD service, get the PWD7uy and save yourself some money. It has the best 480p picture I have seen in any TV.
I looked long and hard at my second HDTV and chose the Panasonic over Sony, Pioneer and Toshiba plasmas (no Samsung please!). All looked excellent on bright material, but the Panasonic was best on blacks, by a small margin over Toshiba. The Panasonic price was best of all however (how do they do that?) I also liked the HD2+ DLP machines (Toshiba, Mitsubishi, Samsung), which looked very competitive straight on, but obviously not as bright off angle. I was also concerned that I have a lot of ambient light, living in AZ. This is a glaring weakness of my Mitsubishi CRT projector TV. Thus, plasma won out over the excellent DLP TV's. I have yet to find a single dead pixel in this TV.
INSTALLATION:
I am using the tabletop stand on my dresser. The display is pleasingly trim, unlike the monstrous consumer models. I don't need the speakers and tuner at the price of 20lbs and 6" extra width. Plus the 7th generation has the longer lasting phosphor material not yet in the (currently) 6th generation consumer model. I like the trim subdued (charcoal) look of the 7uy over the 25up(yuck! silver) as well.
PLASMA FUNCTIONS:
The TV controls are relatively simple. One complaint is that the black bars on the HDMI input cannot be avoided by scaling the picture. The component signal can be stretched vertically to reduce the thickness of the bars, though most of my cable material (HD included) has no black bars at all anyway.

PICTURE:
My component cables showed up a few days after I had purchased this unit so I was running on an S-video cable for the first few days. I have the Panny wired directly into a Directv HD receiver. Right out of the box this display rocks! I will agree with the posts I have found here that you should turn down the brightness right away. I have mine set at -5. I also set the color to "cool". Regular broadcasting is amazing on this display. My jaw dropped when i swithced to the HDnet channel and watched the Goo Goo Dolls in the Alaskan countryside. CSI in High Def is amazing. Fast forward two days and switch from S-video to Component. It was like I took delivery of a new plasma two days later! Component blows S-video out of the water. I thought I could step off the couch onto the glaciers! I cannot wait for Sunday and High Def NFL action on the ticket.
Keep in mind that it defaults to S-video when you take it out of the box. I had to remove my S-video and select component in input 2 in the setup menu. I had the S-vid and the component in the same slot so it defaulted to the s-vid.
I cannot explain how completely this display has surpassed our expectations!
INSTALLATION:
We have the display on a table stand in the corner of our family room. My wife was originally worried about the set looking like a daunting monstrousity (her words) in our family room. This has to be the fastest revocation in recorded marriage history. It is a centerpiece no doubt, but so sleek and clean that it does not over power her "look". Of course once we turn it on, it can't help but take over!
PLASMA FUNCTIONS:
This unit has plenty of input slots that ship with the base unit. It also has an optional slot, purchased seperately, for additional inputs. I cannot see where you would run out of inputs and I have seen posts where other models might be a little more limied in this area. The remote is easy to navigate and all functions are available on the front of the display itself. Keep in mind that if you have S-video and component inputs in the same slot on the back of this display that it will default to the S-video. Component is the way to go for this display.
