Review Specifications Calibration Pricing |
Model: Samsung PN63C550
Description: Full HD 1080p 63" Plasma HDTV
Date: Summer 2010

This shot from the Blu Ray of Wyatt Earp shows strong contrast but soft edges.
The Samsung C550 series plasma TV has a black touch of color bezel. This is a fairly simple straightforward model without many extra features, but with 1080p resolution. It does have Anynet+, a LAN connection, and the Clear Voice audio feature. See the full review of the PN50C550 here.

Shot from standard definition DVD The Truman Show shows strong color performance.
A step up from the 4 series plasmas the 5 series are an affordable line of 1080p plasma TVs from Samsung. The 550 series features a charcoal gray Touh of Color bezel, a full hD 1080p panel that includes Samsung's FilterBright technology for reducing glare and internal reflections and Samsung's Wide Color Enhancer Pro for increased depth in blues and greens. 4 HDMI inputs, SRS TruSurrond HD and a sub 3 inch depth round out the features of this line of plasmas. We were very impressed with the picture quality and aesthetics of the 2009 C series plasmas and the 2010 series carries on that tradition.
The Samsung PN63C550 costs around $2500 at many reputable online dealers. This is obviously a value play, omitting many of the newest features. It offers a good picture quality with HD content though a bit soft and grainy with standard definition programming. Competition comes from the Panasonic TC-P65S2, and the LG 60PK550.
Rating scale from 70 (denoting poorest quality) to 100 (signifying the very best quality). Picture quality is double-weighted in the Overall Rating Score calculation.
