Improved plasma panel drive circuitry and Sony's acclaimed CineMotion progressive scan make sure you always get the smoothest, most natural picture from any video source.

Sony Plasma Technology

ALiS (Alternate Lighting of Surfaces) Plasma Panel
ALiS technology distributes electrodes in the plasma panel more efficiently than conventional plasma monitors, resulting in less "leakage" of light between pixels, yielding significantly higher brightness, sharpness and color accuracy while reducing energy consumption in the plasma display.

Sony WEGA Engine
The Sony WEGA Engine consists of 3 key technologies developed by Sony:

Direct Digital II Circuitry: Direct Digital II circuitry eliminates unnecessary Digital-to-Analog conversions in video processing, ensuring the purest possible image without unnatural artifacts added by over-processing.

Digital Reality Creation
High-resolution televisions generally boost conventional 480i sources to higher line rates, such as 960i or 480p. Even though the picture resolution does not change, you get a more seamless, more satisfying image on the big screen. Sony's Digital Reality Creation circuits do an even better job, by replacing analog picture patterns with their High Definition digital equivalents. DRC not only doubles the number of scanning lines, but also doubles the number of pixels on each line, yielding pictures with four times the original picture density, approaching the quality of a High Definition signal!

CineMotion 3/2 Pulldown
CineMotion 3-2 conversion overcomes the problems that occur when movie film, which is shot at 24 frames per second, is displayed on progressive-scan televisions, which operate at 60 frames per second. In order to display 60 frames, some televisions take scanning lines from two adjacent movie frames and force-fit them into one television frame, introducing jagged edges and other artifacts in moving images on the screen. And its not just in the movies: most prime-time dramas, music videos and even commercials are shot at 24 frames per second, making CineMotion 3-2 reverse pull-down important for most of the video you watch! It analyzes the picture, automatically detecting film footage and preserving the integrity of the original film frames. You'll see a clearer, more stable picture, especially on scenes with movement.

3D Digital Comb Filter:
Sony's 3D digital comb filter constantly analyzes picture information in three dimensions—horizontally, vertically and over time—to get superb detail and high color purity under the widest range of picture conditions.

MID Picture-in-Picture Circuitry
If you're a fan of picture-in-picture, wait until you've tried Sony's Twin View picture-and-picture! Powered by the MID circuit, this feature displays two pictures side-by-side. Then you can zoom each picture up or down in size, depending on what's going on and what's important. You can even display a High Definition source side-by-side with Standard Definition on the same screen.

Audio System Features

Sound Effects
To enhance the sound, you can select TruSurround, which adds a three-dimensional sound to stereo programs, or Simulated, which adds a surround-like effect to mono-channel programs. The sound effects can be turned off.

Audio Out
The TV has a rear-panel audio output, which consists of left and right RCA audio jacks. Using the menu, you can select one of the following audio out settings: Fixed or Variable.

Subwoofer Output
The subwoofer RCA jack allows you to add a powered subwoofer to this display.

Terminals and Connections

DVI-HDTV In
This input consists of left and right RCA audio jacks and a DVI-D terminal. The DVI-D terminal can accommodate a copy-protected digital connection (HDCP) to other devices (such as digital set-top boxes) that have compatible interfaces. The DVI-D terminal is compliant with the EIA-861 standard and is not intended for use with personal computers.

Note: The DVI-D input will accept 1080i, 720p, and 480p signals.

Component Video Inputs
The component video inputs will accept 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i signals.
