Key Features of the Sony KE-42M1 42" Plasma Monitor

Sony KE-42M1 Plasma TV

This 42" Sony plasma TV is the perfect introduction to enhanced-definition images and flat-panel plasma style. Less than 5" deep, the sleek 16:9 widescreen KE-42M1 plasma TV delivers movies, sports and more in impressive widescreen format. Enjoy the smooth clarity of progressive-scan video, thanks to CineMotion 3-2 Pulldown, and use the full array of A/V inputs, including HDTV-compatible HDMI, to get the most from all of your home theater components. Built-in stereo speakers along with SRS TruSurround processing pushes out crisp, clear audio, so the sound is as sharp as the plasma display image.

The Sony KE-42M1 plasma monitor features the improved plasma panel driver LSI (Large Scale Integrated circuit) which increases contrast range to add depth and sharpness to the plasma image. In addition, the KE42M1 incorporate the latest digital interface technology with HDCP (High Definition Copy Protection), which interconnects between digital sources, supporting uncompressed high definition video.

Sony Plasma Technology

The KE-42M1, the newest Sony Plasma TV features new and improved technology delivering the sharpest, most lifelike plasma TV image:

Sony Plasma Panel Driver LSI is a re-engineered 14-bit panel driver that has been integrated with Sony's Digital Component Processor for greater contrast range and sharpness in the plasma display panel for a crisp, dynamic picture without distortion.

Digital Reality Creation circuitry. Most plasma televisions generally boost conventional 480i sources to 480p progressive resolution. Even though the picture resolution does not change, you get a more seamless, more satisfying image on the big screen. The Digital Reality Creation circuits used in Sony plasma TVs goes one better, by replacing analog picture patterns with their digital equivalents, doubling the number of scanning lines and the number of pixels on each line. You get pictures with four times the original picture density—approaching the quality of High Definition!

CineMotion 3-2 Reverse Pulldown analyzes input signals to identify 24fps film footage, and interprets the image to preserve the integrity of each frame, eliminating distortion and edge artifacts on the plasma screen. Almost all DVD movies, and most prime-time dramas, music videos and commercials are also shot at 24 frames per second. That's why CineMotion 3-2 reverse pull-down is so important. No matter what the video source, you'll see a clearer, more stable picture with your Sony Plasma.

Convenience Features

Twin View
Using the Multi-Image Driver, Twin View allows you to watch two programs side-by-side with the ability to zoom in on one picture and listen to the program in the selected window. You can watch pictures from two different sources (1080i, 720p, 480p, or 480i) simultaneously. Since this TV only has a single internal tuner, you will need an external source to use the Twin View feature.

Audio System Features

SRS TruSurround
TruSurround by SRS Labs is a sophisticated virtual surround sound technology that delivers a full and immersive virtual surround sound experience from your Sony plasma TV. Using TruSurround, you will be completely immersed in a life-like surround sound field—in full digital quality—even if you're only using the stereo speakers of your plasma monitor!

Sound Effects
To enhance the sound, you can select TruSurround, which adds a three-dimensional sound to stereo programs, or Simulated, which adds a surround-like effect to mono-channel programs. The sound effects can be turned off.

Audio Out
The TV has a rear-panel audio output, which consists of left and right RCA audio jacks. Using the menu, you can select one of the following audio out settings: Fixed or Variable.

Subwoofer Output
The subwoofer RCA jack allows you to add a powered subwoofer to this display.

Terminals and Connections

Component Video Inputs enable high-quality analog connections between the plasma monitor and your DVD player or satellite receiver, using separate cables for the Luminance (Y), blue color difference (Pb), and red color difference (Pr) components of the video signal. The component video inputs will accept 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i signals.
