Key Features of the Panasonic TH-50PX50U 50" Plasma Monitor

Panasonic Plasma Technology

Deep Blacks, Bright Whites, and 8.58 Billion Colors
The realism of a plasma TV's image is strongly linked to its contrast ratio, and the Panasonic TH-50PX50U plasma television features a high contrast ratio of up to 3000:1. Such a wide range from black to white means great depth and dimensionality with vibrant colors and this plasma can display an incredible 8.58 billion colors for a superior picture. Deep blacks provide excellent shadow detail during dark scenes, while brilliant whites allow our plasmas to render bright scenes with vivid realism.

HDTV (1080i, 720p) and EDTV (480p) Display Capability
This Plasma TV enables you to view high-definition or enhanced-definition TV programming in the 1080i or 480p signal format. A DTV signal must be present in your area, and an external over-the-air antenna may be required.

A Cinema-Style Viewing Experience At Home
This widescreen TV features a width-to-height ratio similar to movie theater screens, providing a theater-like experience at home. View HDTV broadcasts and widescreen DVDs the way they were meant to be seen.

Crisp, Lifelike Details
HDTV broadcasts and DVDs offer more detail and better color than analog broadcasts, and it takes a high-resolution display to deliver all that picture information. The high pixel count of this plasma display provides fine detail for outstanding HDTV reproduction. More pixels also translate into less stair-stepping artifacts; curved and diagonal edges look smooth and natural.

Progressive Processing
Progressive Scan displays a full frame of video in 1/60th of a second by de-interlacing the incoming video signal and progressively scanning the image. With it, you generally don't see the horizontal scan lines that are often visible in ordinary television images.

Convenience Features

View Digital Programming Without A Cable Box
Panasonic plasma HDTVs with CableCARD slots can accept a small card that allows you to receive standard definition and high definition digital broadcasts. No bulky set-top cable box—perfect for a wall-mounted plasma TV. Contact your cable company to find out if they offer this service in your area.

Built-in NTSC and ATSC TV Tuners
The TH-50PX50U includes an integrated ATSC tuner that pulls HDTV signals (480p, 720p, 1080i) right out of the airwaves, and its QAM tuner is fully compatible with unscrambled HDTV cable reception. A standard analog NTSC tuner receives standard-definition (SD) programming.

Receive Over-The-Air HDTV Broadcasts
Sports, movies, and original network programming are all available in high definition from many local broadcasters. Receive and view local over-the-air broadcasts on this plasma in stunning HDTV clarity using the built-in HDTV tuner. If your cable company passes through HDTV broadcasts from local broadcasters, you can decode and tune those as well.

Trilingual On-Screen Display
You have the option of viewing on-screen settings in English, Spanish or French.

V-Chip Program Lock Out
Allows you to program the television to block out specific TV channels.

ENERGY STAR Compliant for Low Energy Consumption

Audio System Features

Built-in Speaker System
The TV's internal 2-way, biamplified stereo speakers are powered by 13 watts total per channel and use 5 separate drivers per speaker for extra richness and clarity. BBE ViVA HD3D surround processing creates authentic-sounding 3D effects from stereo speakers and exceptional sound-stage imaging, helping to ensure optimal clarity for centrally staged audio material such as dialogue. Artificial intelligence sound automatically adjusts the volume level on your TV to prevent wide variations in sound between different TV stations and types of programming.

BBE® ViVA High-Definition 3D Sound
BBE High-Definition sound provides true linear phase correction and dynamic amplitude compensation, improving speech intelligibility and the dynamic range of musical passages, giving music a realistic, 'live' presence. No other audio processor brings natural clarity and crisp definition to the spoken work like BBE can. With BBE, the spoken word can be heard clearly and easily, and at lower volume levels. BBE ViVA is a new High Definition 3D Sound technology which integrates a 3D enhancement effect with BBE High Definition Sound. BBE ViVA creates an authentic and exciting 3D sound effect from stereo speakers while preserving the clarity, definition, presence and texture for which BBE High Definition Sound is noted. An important feature of BBE ViVA is its ability to maintain proper sound stage imaging. Ordinary 3D sound effects often tear the stereo image down the middle, resulting in centrally staged audio material, such as dialogue, becoming fuzzy or even disappearing. BBE ViVA is different because it maintains crystal clarity for solo vocals and movie dialogue.

Terminals and Connections

HDMI Digital Interface
If you have even a moderately complicated home theater setup, you probably have a pile of tangled cables on the floor behind it. Imagine replacing all those cables with a single cable that carries both digital video and audio at the same time. With the new HDMI standard, that's exactly what you get. The HDMI connector on this TV accepts high-quality digital video and audio via the same thin cable, allowing you to run one cable from the source to the TV.
