Key Features of the Panasonic TH-42PX25U/P 42" Plasma Monitor

Panasonic TH-42PX25U/P Plasma TV

The Panasonic Plasma TH-42PX25U/P features a high contrast ratio of 3000:1, making for a super bright, razor-sharp picture. With 1024 x 768 lines of resolution, the Panasonic TH42PX25U/P is High Definition Television (HDTV) capable, and includes an integrated ATSC/QAM tuner for receiving HDTV broadcasts.

Panasonic Plasma Technology

HDTV (1080i, 720p) and EDTV (480p) Display Capability
This Plasma TV enables you to view high-definition or enhanced-definition TV programming in the 1080i or 480p signal format. A DTV signal must be present in your area and the set-top box must be tuned to the proper channel. An external over-the-air antenna may be required. The Panasonic TH-42PX25U/P can also accept 720p signals from a PC input.

Built-in NTSC and ATSC TV Tuners
The TH-42PX25U/P includes an integrated ATSC tuner that pulls HDTV signals (480p/1080i) right out of the airwaves, and its QAM tuner is fully compatible with unscrambled HDTV cable reception. A standard analog NTSC tuner receives standard-definition (SD) programming, and 2-tuner/split-screen picture-in-picture gives you unparalleled viewing convenience with scalable image sizes.

3000:1 Contrast Ratio
A high contrast ratio provides deep blacks and bright whites, and every subtle shade in between. With an incredible contrast ratio of 3000:1, the TH-42PX25U/P delivers brilliant, razor-sharp images that appear almost three-dimensional.

Progressive Processing
Progressive Scan displays a full frame of video in 1/60th of a second by de-interlacing the incoming video signal and progressively scanning the image. With it, you generally don't see the horizontal scan lines that are often visible in ordinary television images.

Convenience Features

2-Tuner Picture-in-Picture with Split-Screen Display
Lets you view two programs at once by dividing the screen.

Scalable P-I-P Image Size
This Panasonic Plasma TV lets you choose the size of the picture-in-picture window from as small as 1/16 to as large as 1/4 of the main picture.

Cable CARD Technology
The Cable CARD feature of the Panasonic TH-42PX25U/P lets you connect directly to your Cable CARD-compliant cable TV system without the need for the standard bulky cable box. Check with your cable provider for compatibility.

Lightweight, Ultra-Thin Design
The TH-42PX25U/P is a high-resolution flat plasma panel light enough to hang on a wall, allowing you to open up space in your bedroom or living room.

16:9 Widescreen Aspect Ratio
This widescreen TV has a width-to-height ratio similar to movie theater screens, providing you with cinema-style entertainment right in your own home. Moreover, it enables full-screen viewing of high-definition broadcasts and DVD videos, which are produced in 16:9 format.

Trilingual On-Screen Display
You have the option of viewing on-screen settings in English, Spanish or French.

V-Chip Program Lock Out
Allows you to program the television to block out specific TV channels.

ENERGY STAR® Compliant for Low Energy Consumption

Audio System Features

Built-in Speaker System
The TV's internal 2-way, biamplified stereo speakers are powered by 13 watts total per channel and use 5 separate drivers per speaker for extra richness and clarity. BBE ViVA HD3D surround processing creates authentic-sounding 3D effects from stereo speakers and exceptional sound-stage imaging, helping to ensure optimal clarity for centrally staged audio material such as dialogue. Artificial intelligence sound automatically adjusts the volume level on your TV to prevent wide variations in sound between different TV stations and types of programming.

BBE® ViVA High-Definition 3D Sound
BBE High-Definition sound provides true linear phase correction and dynamic amplitude compensation, improving speech intelligibility and the dynamic range of musical passages, giving music a realistic, 'live' presence. No other audio processor brings natural clarity and crisp definition to the spoken work like BBE can. With BBE, the spoken word can be heard clearly and easily, and at lower volume levels. BBE ViVA is a new High Definition 3D Sound technology which integrates a 3D enhancement effect with BBE High Definition Sound. BBE ViVA creates an authentic and exciting 3D sound effect from stereo speakers while preserving the clarity, definition, presence and texture for which BBE High Definition Sound is noted. An important feature of BBE ViVA is its ability to maintain proper sound stage imaging. Ordinary 3D sound effects often tear the stereo image down the middle, resulting in centrally staged audio material, such as dialogue, becoming fuzzy or even disappearing. BBE ViVA is different because it maintains crystal clarity for solo vocals and movie dialogue.

Terminals and Connections

Enhanced "Jack Pack"
The TH-42PX25U/P features an enhanced "jack pack" including: one front and two rear A/V inputs; one front and two rear S-Video inputs; and two rear component inputs and an HDMI interface.

HDMI Input
The Panasonic TH-42PX25U/P display features HDMI input. HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) is the first industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface. HDMI provides an interface between any audio/video source, such as a set-top box, DVD player, and A/V receiver and an audio and/or video monitor, such as a digital television (DTV). HDMI supports standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. It transmits all ATSC HDTV standards and supports 8-channel digital audio, with bandwidth to spare to accommodate future enhancements and requirements.

Component Video Inputs - 2 Back
Provide outstanding resolution and color accuracy for video images, and can accept either progressive or interlaced signals from a variety of sources including DVD players and DTV set-top receivers/ decoders. The three-wire connection is comprised of the luminance signal (Y) and two color difference signals, R-Y (PR) and B-Y (PB).

S Video Input Jacks - 1 Front and 2 Back
Allows you to connect a DBS (digital broadcast satellite), DVD player, or other video source directly to the luminance and chrominance circuits of the TV set. By keeping color and luminance information separate, cross-color interference is virtually eliminated from the picture.

SD Memory Card Slot
The TH-42PX25U/P features an SD Memory Card slot. Images from a digital still camera or digital video camera stored on the card can be viewed on the large screen, allowing users to enjoy slide shows without needing extra connection cables or other equipment.

PC Card Slot
By putting a memory card from a digital still camera into a PC card adapter, and then placing it in the TH-42PX25U/P's PC card slot, you can view JPEG images on your TV. Compatible Memory Cards include: Standard SD Memory Card, CompactFlash, Memory Stick, MultimediaCard and Smart Media.

Desribe-Input-Signals:

The picture is outstanding when watching a high definition broadcast. The color, brightness and clarity are significantly better than on a regular set. When watching a standard definition picture off of Dish Network, the color and brightness are still very good but picture quality suffers a bit.

Desribe-Plasma-Installation:

The display is like a piece of art. I have it hanging over my fireplace and it looks great whether it is on or off. It is a focal point of conversation when we have people over.

Desribe-Plasma-Functions:

The remote control is fairly user friendly although my wife will say that she still doesn't understand it. I did not have to read the manual to be able to get through most of the functionality of the remote. The menu options are also straighforward and don't require the user to study the manual.

Desribe-Buying-Experience:

I purchased the screen from DTV City. I purchased from them because they were located in Atlanta where I live. Because of this, I was able to drive down to their store myself and bring the screen home in my SUV. They were very friendly and the purchase went smoothly. When I arrived to pick up the screen, I decided against buying the mounting brackets from them and I received a revised invoice from them via email the next day with the appropriate credit.

Desribe-Input-Signals:

The picture in the non-digital stations is lousy. Part of the problem maybe the hook-ups, but it might also be the signal. I've had Comcaste out to my Dad's apartment twice to look at the hook-ups, but their installers seem not tu understand digital. Right now its hooked up only with component leads, and the signal suffers badly in non-digital, especiall the local analog stations. But even the digital stations image is only so-so. The Hi-Def stations, however, INHD, look great, however.

Desribe-Plasma-Installation:

See above; three component leads now. Actually, when the set originally was installed, the first Comcaste guy out set me up with an S-Video cable as well, but the second comcaste tech I had out to look at the set, uninstalled the s-video, and left me with only the componenet video hook ups.

Desribe-Plasma-Functions:

This set was purchased for my father's apartment. He has severe vision problems, and, at age 91, obvious cognitive problems. I thought the larger and sharper image of a Plasma set would be great for him. I didn't realize that operating the TV would require two remote, and switching stations would require switching back and forth between inputs. The menu and other options are too many for him, and maybe for me, since I only watch the set with him at his apartment, and truthfully, long for the day when watching TV was as easy as pressing one button, and using a very simple remote control.

Desribe-Buying-Experience:

Plasma Depot, via on-line. Set arrived in fine condition. I was nervous about purchainsg such a large item over the internet, but it worked out fine. I would do it again, absolutely.
