- I just won a Sony TS32U Plasma .... I have Directv using a Samsung tivo reciever ... The picture is blurry ... Is it because I am only using a s-video connection ? If I go to a HD receiver, will i see a notable difference ? It is not very clear and their seems to be ghosting (blocks ) around the fonts and images ... Pleadse advise ... My old Sony Wega XBR 4.3 ratio with just a coxial connection looks better.
- Does the 37XS910 have a personal computer input port? If so, what resolution can it display?
- With the kde-xxXBR950 plasma's, Sony's manual states the DVI-HDTV input is "not intended for use with personal computers." Does this mean that you will not be able to hook up your computer to the plasma at all? or that they do not recommend it? And if they don't recommend it, what is the reason?
- I have Sony stereo components and was interested in the PFM42V1; however, reviews also state that the Panasonic 42PWD6UY is rated higher. I would prefer to purchase the Sony so all my components match; however, is there an appreciable difference in the performance of the Panasonic that I should consider this model first before the Sony. Or are the two models pretty comparable from a performance perspective that either one would be just fine.
- The PFM42V1 has DVI there seems a few questions on the HDCP issue , can you confirm if this panel can accept a signal from an HDMI DVD player via the panel's DVI input using a HDMI-DVI cable.
- I have been narrowing in on buying from Sony's XBR range of Plasmas. On my last trip to store the salesman said that Sony's XBR panels and circuitry are actually Pioneer Elite Plasmas and the only difference is Sony styling. In addition Pioneer release new panels and technology to Sony about one year after they are released under their own Elite Pro brand. Therefore I should buy Pioneer Elite PRo Plasmas unless I am set on the "Sony look" Is this true? Of course the Pioneer Elite Plasmas where on sale at the time!
- I have a Sony 42XBR900 - which I think is fanastic, by the way, but I'd like some of the addition features in the 42XBR950 model. Can I simply "swap" the media receiver on the 900 for the one on the 950? If so, where can I order an XBR950 media receiver?
- I lost my MBT-XBR900 media box in a move. Can I replace it with the 950 box? The 950 has the HDTV built in.
- Thanks for the great site! I'm wondering you have any initial impressions of the new 42x1 HDTV and how it compares with the 42v1 EDTV. How does it perform with analog signals, is the brightness/contrast similiar or improved? Are the speakers removable? What inputs are on the back? I'm ready to buy but was waiting to see how this new model compared before plunking down the cash. Thanks!
- I am interested in both the sony ke-42xs910 and the pioneer pdp4341hd. I have went back and forth on both of them and cannot decide. What are your feelings on the two? Also, do you know anything about bestbuyplasma.com as a dealer. thank you

A plasma tends to bring out both the best and worst of a signal. There will be a noticable difference if you upgrade to HDTV or if you simply change to component inputs.

The Sony has a DVI input which can be used with a PC; however, it is not recommended and I do not know the PC resolutions it can support.

Sony does not recommend using a computer with a plasma as there is often a higher chance of burn-in occuring with static images on the screen from start bars and icons. The DVI connection can be used with a computer.

I have never been one to say that all components need to be of the same brand. It can simplify remote controls if you do not have a universal; but compatibility is rarely ever an issue. I like to buy the best product in my budget regardless of the brand. In comparing the Sony and Panasonic models, they are very similar. The Sony has a slight edge in sharpness and detail while the Panasonic excels in black levels. The Panasonic also offers a flexibility in the inputs that is not matched by the Sony. Without a side-by-side comparison of the two models, one would rarely be able to tell the difference between the two. The input issue may not be a problem for you if you are using an A/V receiver as a video switcher.

The DVI input on the PFM-42V1 is not HDCP compliant. If the DVD player sends out an HDCP encoded signal, it will not work.

The Sony and Pioneer plasmas are not related. The salesperson was probably trying to move more of the Pioneer models that week. Or they did not have any of the Sonys in stock.

A simple swap of media receiver boxes will not upgrade you to the XBR950 series. They are not interchangeable.

They are not interchangeable. You will need the MBT-XBR900 receiver box if you have the KE-(??)XBR900 series plasma.

I was lucky enough to see the 42X1 at Sony's booth at INFOCOMM. I have not had a unit to perform my own tests but, from what I saw at the show, it was a big improvement over the B2. The X1 has higher contrast and higher color reproduction over the V1 as well as being HDTV resolution.

I like the Pioneer with its 1024x768 panel over the Sony with the 1024x1024 panel design for most of my viewing. I find there to be too many scaling artifacts with the 1024x1024 panels with low definition signals. I also tend to shy away from electronic/camera stores in New York. One will find more gray market and refurbished goods out of the Brooklyn stores.
