- NMy husband and I live in Japan and we want to purchase a Sony Plasma tv. It is 110 power here, but we understand frequencies between Japan and the states vary, so if we buy a Plasma tv here and use it, then move back to the states and try to use it there, it may not work. Is this true? Of course, we only want to buy the plasma tv if we can use it in both locations since it is such a high cost entertainment system. Thank you for your advice. Sincerely, Lynn Gaylord

Unfortunately, burn in is something that can not be repaired. Some units have features built in that will pose a negative of the image to clear any temporary ghosting. Also some have an intense white screen to "erase" the ghosting.

You need the SAT HD300 receiver for decoding of the DirecTV broadcast. That unit as well as the media receiver for the XBR can decode OTA HD broadcasts. So you can choose which ever is easier for you to utilize if you are taking advantage of the free airwaves. The built in tuner is not beneficial for satellite reception as you need the satellite receiver.

The surge protector and warranty are good insurance ideas. An AC Line conditioner or filter is only required if you power is unstable or has a lot of noise.

You are correct, the U = US and E = Europe. There are very little differences between those models.

If you have a DVD with DVI, that would be the best picture. Otherwise, using a special break-out cable with a VGA D-sub 15 pin connection on one end and three RCA component connections on the other, will be the best alternative. That would use the PC input on the plasma and the component output on the DVD player.

A good quality step down voltage transformer will not affect picture quality.

Sony's top of the line product is the always their XBR series. The 42XBR out performs the XS910. However, the 42XBR950 may not be the best fit for you with the separate media receiver box. There is no media receiver box for the 42XS910, all of the connections are run directly to the plasma screen.

I would research the power specifications of the unit you are interested in purchasing. Sony units are made in Japan and I believe most will work there. In any event, look for a unit that operates from 100-120V and 50-60Hz.

This does not sound normal. I would suggest calling Sony's technical support, as they may be able to diagnose the problem.

- The Sony 37XS910 is almost 12 inches deep. Why so thick and can it be wall mounted?
You will find the depth of 12 inches include the table stand, while the plasma panel is only a 3-4" deep.
