- Where can I read some customer reviews on the Sony plasma TV models?
- I watch a lot of TV, will the network logo that is always in the bottom corner of the screen burn in to a plasma tv?
- Do plasma tvs have a tendency to need much repair or servicing? Do you recommend purchasing a 2 or 5 year warranty?
- Just over 3 years ago, I purchased a Sony PFM-500A3WU 42" plasma for over $10,000.00 from ListenUp, a local retailer. Few weeks ago, it went black, at beginning, some fractured colors, but then, just black. No help from retailer. Shipped to Sony. Diagnosis code = 12 and 22. Do I have any rights to have this repaired, or is it a total loss? Cheaper to buy new plasma? Thank you sincerely, Leslie Kaye (Denver, CO)
- The Sony PFM42v1 is reviewed well on your site, but there is no mention of the PFM models on Sony's web site at all. Why is this? Are they not "consumer" models?
- Can the Sony KE-42XBR900 be operated without the Media Box (MBT-XBR900)?
- I just purchased a Sony KDE42XBR950 based on your review. The picture is fantastic. The only complaint I have is the noise from the screen it's self. It's not the fan noise but the electronic noise. The pitch of the niose changes based on the picture being displayed. Even my daughter noticed it and commented. Is this something that will go away with use? It's only been three days in use. When I go behind the panel I can hear it coming from both the upper left and right corners. For the $$ this cost I wouldn't think there should be this type of noise coming from the electronics. Any suggestions? I puchased this from by brothers store and had it shipped to me so it's not a easy return to the local Ultamate Electronics. Thanks,
- Hello, I am interested in the purchase of a Sony plasma screen but will be moving to the UK in 3 months. I therefore need a screen that is compatible with both NTSC and PAL formats. In either case, the input will be a cable or satellite box and therefore I will not need a built in tuner (I think). Can I just purchase any screen or do I need to have a screen that is NTSC/PAL compatible. Thanks in advance JM
- Where can I buy the Sony Media Box (MBT-XBR900) for my Sony KE-42XBR900 Plasma TV?
- The audio speakers on my XBR950 Sony, have started to make a funny sound, is this a problem with the XBR

There is no specific time in which burn in will occur. I would not worry about the network logo as commercials will help to remove the static logo from the corner. You may experience temporary ghosting which will go away after normal viewing.

- Do plasma tvs have a tendency to need much repair or servicing? Do you recommend purchasing a 2 or 5 year warranty?
In general no, however, when a repair is required, the cost is nearly same as a new unit. I would recommend the extended warranty if the price is reasonable.

Most retailers will not cover a product for more than 15-30 days. The product will then be covered through the manufacturer's warranty. If an extended warranty was purchased, it will cover the product for the duration of that contract. You have the right to have it repaired, it will be at your expense if you are outside of the manufacturer or any extended warranty. I would get an estimate of the cost of repair then compare it to the price of a replacement plasma as there have been significant technological advances over the past 3 years.

You can find information on the PFM42V1 on Sony's Broadcast and Professional website. It is a commercial model.

The situation you have described does not sound to be normal. I would contact Sony and have a technician come to your home to inspect the unit. At only 3 days, it is well within the warranty period.

The plasma screen will have to work on both NTSC and PAL if you want to use it in the US and UK. If you are using digital cable or satellite, a tuner is not required. I would also look at the operating voltages.

- Where can I buy the Sony Media Box (MBT-XBR900) for my Sony KE-42XBR900 Plasma TV?
The media receiver should be available direct from Sony.

I would contact Sony if you are within your warranty period. If nothing has changed in your system, there could be a problem with the speakers.
