Sampo Plasma List of Categories
- I am looking at two tvs. The sampo has a 500:1 contrast ratio and 550 brightness. The daewoo has 3000:1 contrast and 600cd/m2. Evrything else seesm to be the same. What do the differences in those two things mean for the picture quality.
- I recently tried to turn on my Sampo pme42x6 plasma and when the set would'nt turn on I checked the power connection in the back of the set and when I moved it it Buzzed and sparked inside. I'm afraid that the set might not be able to be fixed or of the high repair cost. It is a great set, have you heard of any problems like this and if so what it might be and if the repair costs might be.
- I have recently purchased a Sampo 50" (50X6) plasma TV. Looking at them in the store, i was initially considering a Panasonic but didn't much of visual difference in their setup and for just a little more could get a 50" at 1366x786 resolution. But now that it is setup, it does not look as good in the store. I'm no videophile and would be more than happy if the images looked as good as in the store. For my setup, i have comcast digital cable (will be getting the HD box next week) which goes out composite and goes through my TIVO/DVD box which upscales to 480p and then routes it through component to the TV. I am noticing plenty of artefacting (which is likeley the TIVO recompression), a good amout of pixelation, some image noise, color bleeding and some ghosting (even when in the TIVO menu). I was wondering what sorts of things i could do to improve the quality once i receive the HD box. I myself tend to think that the ghost and bleed would be cables but would like a second oppinion.
- I bought 2 46" plasma TVs 3 years ago and now they're acting up. Some time i turn them on and no picture comes up. The display and menu come up along with the volume, the picture sometimes come up after a while or may not at all. I would feel lucky if 1 of them works at any given day now. Is this a common symptom? Is there any thing i need to replace?

The brightness level appears to be about the same, so there would be discernable differences from that specification. The contrast ratio is a measure of the difference between white and black. The higher the contrast ratio, the blacker the blacks will appear. With the lower contrast ratio specification, the blacks will appear gray and not black.

It sounds as if when you moved the plasma, it caused a short circuit causing a power surge. I have not heard of this before, I would suggest having someone take a look at the plasma.

I would go through your connections again, I would use component to from the HD box and see how it looks. The signal being passed through composite with result in the lowest picture quality.

I would suggest contacting the manufacturer or a service center with your problem.
