- I've recently purchased a Sony Plasma 42' TV(PFM-42V1). I've hook up the TV set to a digital top box (HDTV) and it works fine. However, when I connect the TV to my Sony DVD player, the images displayed on the TV all have shades of green in it. (ie. everything is shaded with tints of green). I've tried adjusting the colour temperature, contrast etc., but it doesn't do anything. When I press plasma tv screen menu, the colours on it are normal[menu colours], but when exit the menu and go back to the disk, the whole screen turns green again. Can anyone help? (I've tried this with 5 different dvds, all of them show green).
- I'm installing my Plasma in a recessed entertainment centre. I think I read that back lighting would improve viewing. Can you suggest the type of lights and mounting (up / down/ flood). Thanks
- Am planning to purchase a panasonic HDTV plasma (still deciding on which one). Due to space considerations we are planning to wall mount the TV unit and have the sallelite, DVD and other components about 25 feet away. My concern is loss of signal quality because of the distance. Can you advise me on the best cable/hookup information?
- the studs behind the drywall is aluminum frameing not wood, what type anchor bolt should be used to mount monitor bracket?
- Is it at all possible to access a monitor's PIP capability, when all of the video components (Cable, DVD, VCR) are input via the AV receiver, and then output to the monitor?
- I have enjoyed your website and benefitted from it. Thanks. I bought Panasonic Plasma 42PW6 and Panasonic SC HT928. I connect my DVD through the S-Video connection. However, I am unable to connect the Cable TV simultaneously to the TV. I currently remove the DVD's SVideo connection and then connect it to my Cable to watch TV. How can this issue be resolved?
- I just bought Panasonic TH42PWD6UY. I connect my DVD player to my HT receiver (component).. then I connect my receiver to the Plasma using component also...It works fine Then, I tried to connect my VCR (for cable tv) to the receiver using composite..., but the plasma cannot display the tv signal (from VCR). I, then connect my VCR (composite) directly to the plasma.. and it works... Is there anyway that I can connect JUST component cable from receiver to plasma.. and connect VCR to receiver using composite... If not then I guess the receiver cannot transfer composite input and output it to the component. It has to be same of the kind.. is that right..? PLS clarify it for me thx
- I just purchased th-42pwd6uy but cannot seem to mount it. I also purchased a universal wall mount (RHINO) but due to the fact that this TV has indents where the mounting screws belong, the flat steel mount does not allow me to screw the mount to the TV. Can I just buy a longer screw? Is there a specific mount that I should have got? Will this universal mount effect the electromagnetic field for the TV?
- I am getting a panasonic th42pd25u/p - I plan to hook my PC up to it - what is the best hookup? I will need about 40 foot of cable(20 foot away plus up the walls plus some extra) - should i go vga to vga or vga to rca, or a short vga to rca and then use a patch cord to get the rca the rest of the way to the set? any suggestions would be appreciated.
- I recently purchased a plazma EDTV and I was told by the sales rep. that I needed an additional power device (the name escapes me, but it was $200.00 more.)which is designed to add a few more years of life to the plazma screen. I believe it distributed different levels of power to the plazma television that may cause premature damage to the monitor. Please advise if this is true. What it is and if something more glamorous than a surge protector is needed?

Without more information on the type of connections you are using, it is difficult to troubleshoot. Assuming you are using the same cable and connection for both the HDTV and DVD player, I can not think of anything that would cause it to be green. If you are using the VGA input with a component breakout cable, you need to make sure you change it in the settings from an RGB input to Component Input.

You will want the backlighting to be indirect. The industry standard is for a light with a color temperature of 6500K. You can find some companies that design lights just for this application. Most are small fluorescent fixtures.

I typically suggest budgeting 10% of your system cost on cables. When faced with longer than average runs, your may have to increase your budget. I would definately recommend buying high quality cables with construction to minize signal loss and interference. One way to save a little money here is to use an A/V receiver as your video switch which will limit your runs to one or two video cables.

- the studs behind the drywall is aluminum frameing not wood, what type anchor bolt should be used to mount monitor bracket?
I would suggest toggle bolts for most applications; however, I would suggest contacting the manufacturer of the mount for their recommendation.

- Is it at all possible to access a monitor's PIP capability, when all of the video components (Cable, DVD, VCR) are input via the AV receiver, and then output to the monitor?
Generally the PIP function is only able to work when each component is connected to the plasma on a separate input.

I would suggest using the component input for the DVD player and the s-video or composite for cable.

It sounds as if you answered you own question in the end. Some receivers will not transfer a composite or s-video signal through the component outputs. Check your manual for your A/V receiver.

I typically do not recommend universal mounts due to the problem you are running into. I would purchase a mount specifically designed for the plasma.

Going from a PC to computer would depend on the plasma and output on your PC. That plasma has a VGA input on the front for PC use. You could use that or the HDMI on the rear using an adaptor or DVI to HDMI cable if you PC has a DVI output. The component inputs will not accept the RGB PC signal.

The sales person was most likely recommending a surge protector that also had a power conditioner as well. The power conditioner will clean the power before sending it to the power supply in the plasma. The power supply in the plasmas are very sensitive to fluxuations and these devices will maximize the performance and life from a plasma tv.
