- Hello and thanks for your site. I am moving from the US to the UK and would like to purchase a plasma or an lcd 32" or so TV. I know that there are differences in signal between there and here (NTSC/PAL) but would like to know if all flat TVs can view all signals with an appropriate decoder and if yes, where I can buy such a decoded. One common question people have regarding plasma is, "is the plasma TV hard to install?" The short answer is, no. Installing a plasma TV is relatively easy, there are just a few things to consider.
When mounting the plasma on the wall with one of the various wall mounts, there will be a few things you will need. You will need a stud finder in order to locate the studs in the wall. Once you've done that you are ready to anchor the mount on the wall using a drill and four screws. During this procedure, it helps to have at least two people present to help out with this process. Now all you have to do is hang the plasma on the wall and you are ready to go.
Running the cable behind the wall becomes a bit more complicated and depending on your carpentry skills may require some professional installation. There are also ways the cables can be concealed aesthetically without damaging your walls.
If you are planning on placing the plasma TV on the table stand, it is very easy. It is just a matter of lining up the two holes on the bottom of the plasma with the supports on the stand. The cables run behind the unit and are generally concealed behind the furniture that the plasma is resting on.

This would vary depending on the plasma you are going to install along with all the components you will be connecting to the plasma.

If the area around the units are open to the air, then I would not be concerned with heat. If the area around the two units are going to be sealed, then I would expect to experience problems from heat build up.

I would not recommend installing a plasma to exterior of moving vehicle. The vibrations will reduce the life of the product as well as the environmental conditions will have an impact of the life of the unit.

That can be done as long as you can secure the chains in the ceiling to the rafters. You may also want to consider a ceiling mount with a single pole to connect to your ceiling. You can purchase these with various drop down tube lengths.

I would make sure you attach it to the studs, albeit metal or wood and using the appropriate anchors.

The need for a tuner only stems from what you may be using as your video source. If you are using digital cable or satellite, then a tuner is not required. A tuner is only required if you plan on using standard analog cable or picking up terrestrial broadcasts through an antenna. The simple solution to those with analog cable and a plasma without a tuner, is to use the tuner built into most VCRs.

It is your choice. We generally recommend using a tilting wall mount for those mounted high on the wall such as over a fireplace. I like the center of the plasma screen to be slightly above my eye level during normal watching. That is my preference, yours may be different.

Not all plasmas can decode both NTSC and PAL. In general, most commercial line screens, albeit, lcd or plasma will decode both NTSC and PAL. Some monitors will work on both 110V and 220V as well. The best thing to do is search for the color system in the specifications of the monitors. A Sony model that is within your criteria is the PFM-32C1.

I am not a certified electrician, however, I would not expect running the power cord inside the wall as you stated to be within code for most locations. I would suggest having an outlet installed behind the unit. A surge protector is always a good idea.
