- We are considering purchasing a Philips 42 inch plasma tv. We want to know if Tivo is compatible with it. Also, one other quick question...How can we be sure that channels that are not HDTV ready don't show 'distorted' on the screen. Thanks in advance! Kara
- where can I get a Phillips Plasma TV repaired in the south east?
- I own a Phillips 42DF9954 plasma tv and am quite pleased with it, however, I've noticed when playing movies from my Zenith DVD/VCR combo player, at times when there are dark scenes in a film, there appear to be slight diagonal ocsilation lines (they are not ongoing). I used the PBPBYR (blue/red/green) connections from the player to the TV, but it was an inexpensive player. Would that account for it as I don't notice the slight lines when I'm playing the regular broadcast programs? Or, could it be I need those expensive "monster" cables to get the best picture, or.... Thanks much
- I am getting a Philips 42FD9954 42'' Plasma Flat-Panel HD-Ready TV in a week. I've read that I should get one of their "E-boxes" to get a better picture (and to use as a tuner - I think). However, they have 2 models that are both expensive (and seem to only differ in that 1 has 2 tuners and some propietary pixel function). I will be getting Dish Network's HD system but use an over-the-air antenna for local TV. Do I need their E-Box or is there another fancy tuner box out there that works better for less money? Thanks for your help!!
- I have a 42" phillips plasma tv and i am havin a strange problem with the colors. I cannot see blue anymore and they just appear to come up as green. What could be the problem?
- I have a Phillips 32 inch plazma hooked thru my Digital cable provider(comcast) Although the picture is good it isnt great ? Should I invest in the "X box" product and is it all its hype'd to be ? Is there a "Geeks web site for different hook up configurations? I belive I have it hooked up correctley but one never knows since they dont provide this information? HELP ME PLEASE
- Hi, You seem to prefer Japanese brand plasma TV's. How do Philips plasmas tend to fare in comparison? It seems like they were one of the first to release a plasma TV, so I'm curious if they're as good as Panasonic/Sony/Pioneer. Also, how many generations have their plasmas gone through? Thanks!
- I have a 42" phillips plasma....do I need a tuner? I have a yamaha receiver and the picture keeps on breaking up and sometimes can't get some HD channels. Nees help!!
- I have a 42 inch phillips plasma and e-box and comcast HD service. Only on the HD channels I get the screen going blank fairly frequently. Comcast said their signial is fine. The certified philips dealer said that Phillips told them that there is a problem with the Mototorla box from comcast. They told me if I switch to Satellite I will not have a problem. I seem to be getting a run around on a very expensive TV. What should I do?
- I know nothing about plasma. I Like Phillips with the built in speakers. We have basic cable service. Do you just hook up the cable, plug them in and view?

Tivo is compatible with the Philips plasma. The Philips plasmas, as does others, has various stretch and zoom modes to compensate for a 4:3 aspect ratio image being produced on the 16:9 aspect ratio screen.

Here is the link to the service locator on the Philips site: http://www.consumer.philips.com/global/b2c/common/dealerlocator/cris2000_service.jhtml?divId=0&subCatId=&productId=&catId=&groupId=TV_GR&_requestid=13910

The problem could be your DVD player. Each player will handle the signals differently, some better than others. This sounds like the player. Here is a great review on dvd players. http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_7_3/dvd-benchmark-introduction-9-2000.html

I would still buy the E-Box as it offers more than just a tuner. It also acts as a line doubler and will improve the picture performance and give you a few more features not built into the main display unit.

I do not know what could be causing this problem. I would suggest calling a service technician.

The E-Boxes sold separately with the Philips plasmas are a must purchase item for those wanting to get the best out of the plasma. They have a built-in line doubler and offer PIP features and some others that are not available without the box.

I do tend to prefer the Japanese makes of plasmas over most others. They tend to last longer and have the best picture. Each maker is on a different generation from 4-6 and some are now coming out with 7th generation models.

Here is an article regarding tuners. http://www.plasmatvbuyingguide.com/productreviews/tvtuners.html Without more information on your source for the HD material, I can not be of further help. If you are using an antenna for OTA HD broadcasts, then the solution could be as simple as adjusting the antenna.

This is an interesting problem. It may stem from how you have it connected. I have read and heard about problems with using DVI and some various boxes. If you have the cable box connected through DVI, you may want to try the component inputs and see if you experience the same phenomenon. Otherwise, you want to ask a neighbor using the same Motorola box and HDTV if they experience this problem. If all else fails and you are under your warranty period, ask for service.

Essentually yes, any plasma with speakers and NTSC tuner are cable ready. Think of a consumer plasma like a regular tv except the display technology is different.
