- How come different some vendors have power supply of 120V for TH-42PWD6UY 42-IN EDTV and others have 220V?
- From previous questions I understand that the Panasonic TH-42PWD6UY has power supply of 120V. I'm interested of taking it overseas where they use 220V and I understand that I will need a step down transformer. I wanted to know if a transformer (a good one, not the cheap ones) can cause any damage to the Plasma TV or if it will lower the picture quality somehow. What other things do I need to consider when using the Plasma with a step down transformer? Also, do you know which 42'' Panasonic models will work with the 220V? Thanks in advance.
- New Panny TH50PHD6 has black bands top and bottom when viewing interlaced DVD. Setup is with S-video from DVD to AV and S-video from AV to plasma. This cannot be corrected via aspect control. Suggestions on how to get full screen images?
- I have a TH-42PWD6 plasma display that I am trying to interface to my DVD Player. I have obtained a SCART to RGB + Composite BNC Cable. I connect the Red Green Blue and composite connections to the plasma and select CS as the sync on the RGB menu but the screen shows "No Signal". I have checked the cable pinout against the SCART standard and all appears OK. I know that the RGB output works on my DVD player as it worked fine with my Sony TV. Where do I go next?
- I recently built a media room and am in search of the perfect plasma. When I designed the space, I used Panasonics 50" plasmas as my design model. Now, I've been told by a local retail specialist that the new "industry standard" is to integrate speakers to all their new models (TH-50PX25U/P). Is this true? My problem is... I have built-ins that will partially covered by the larger integrated speakers. I also don't want to pay extra for speakers I'll never use. Do you think Panasonic will revert back to the old way (no integrated speakers), or do you think I'll be forced to downsize to a 42" screen?
- It seems that the new TH-42PX25UP does not have 2-3 pulldown built in. If I buy a DVD player with that feature built into it, does that overcome the shortcoming of the TV? Thanks.
- Why does the Panasonic TH-42PWD6UY not regonize when you have S-Video and Composite both hooked up at the same time?? I have the cable box hooked up via Composite and component for HD material and DVD player via S-Video but when both are pluged in you get no picture. How do you go about getting around this problem?? Any help would be great. Thanks Chris
- I am considering a Panasonic TH-42PDW6UY and read here that it has an "Auto Power Off" function which you commented that "the auto power off will turn off the unit when it does not sense a signal for a set duration of time." This will be useful to me, however, is the reverse also true? i.e., Will it turn back on automatically once a signal re-appears? I am looking to purchase this unit within the next few weeks, but would hold off if there will be a newer model available shortly. Thank you for a most informative area!
- I just bought a TH-42PA20U. My main goal is to watch HD sporting events on espn and ABC. I am very new at this so if you can explain what I would need in order to achieve this. My cable company offers HD with some box for $3 a month! Its Charter Communications
- Greetings from Australia! Just wanted to know if I purchased a TH-42PA20U/P will I be getting an inferior 5th generation plasma TV without the superb clarity and contrast levels and 60K half life of the new 6th generation TH-42PWD6UY? Or are the plasma screens and internals the same? Thanks! Gav.

- How come different some vendors have power supply of 120V for TH-42PWD6UY 42-IN EDTV and others have 220V?
The Panasonic TH-42PWD6UY has a 120V power supply from the factory. The vendors which have it listed as 220V are most likely selling European models not for sale in the US.

A good quality step down voltage transformer will not affect the picture or damage the plasma. None of the Panasonic models for sale in the US are designed to operate on 220V. You would have to purchase a version for sale in Europe or other parts of the world that operate on 220V.

- New Panny TH50PHD6 has black bands top and bottom when viewing interlaced DVD. Setup is with S-video from DVD to AV and S-video from AV to plasma. This cannot be corrected via aspect control. Suggestions on how to get full screen images?
Please look at the aspect ratio of the DVD. If it is 1.78 or 16:9, then there should not be any bars on the top or bottom when in FULL mode. If the DVD is 1.82 or 2.35 or something else, you may see black bars on the top and bottom since those do not perfectly match the aspect ratio of the plasma. Please visit www.widescreen.org for additional information regarding aspect ratios.

I am unfortunately not very familiar with the SCART connections. I would contact Panasonics technical support center at 800.222.0741.

You will find that the consumer model plasmas trend is for built in speakers. The commercial or broadcast models do not come with speakers. I do not expect to see a change in that trend. Some commercial models will have speakers as an option.

I find that the best progressive images come when the 2-3 pull down is done at the source, not at the display. When your DVD player is set to progressive scan, it overrides the de-interlacer built into the plasma.

The TH-42PWD6UY defaults to s-video since that is deemed a better signal. Input 2 from the factory is the s-video and composite input and only one can be used at one time as you have stated. The only way to get around that is to purchase an additional expansion module card for your DVD player or use the PC input as a component input with a special VGA-RCA break-out cable.

The auto power off does not work as an auto power on as you described when it senses a signal. Panasonic releases their new commercial products at the end of the calendar year.

The Th-42PA20UP is an EDTV and will not display HDTV in true HDTV resolution (720p or 1080i), it will downconvert the image to 480p. There will be minimal improvement with an HD signal into an EDTV. At $3 per month, it may be worth it to you. The cable provider should be able to install all needed cables and boxes for your sport viewing pleasure.

The TH-42PA20UP is also a 6th generation from Panasonic with the same life and high contrast. The electronics are not identical but they are very similar.
