- I am planing on the purchase of TH42PDH6U monitor. Do you know if Panasonic will be comming out with a new version of this model in the next 2-3 months? If the answer is no do you mean they are not comming out with a new version or you do NOT KNOW if they have plans for a new version? Thank you,
- I just purchased the consumer 42" Panasonic ED Plasma model. We are running a DirecTV signal through the TV and have been a bit disappointed with the picture quality. Could I have something to do with the cables the installer used to connect the TV to the satellite receiver? When I told him we were going to by a Plasma, the DirectTV installer said we should run it through an S-Video connection. Is that correct?
- heelo, A great site you have. Please help me with this problem with my Panasonic TH-42PDW6UY. All is great, except that I get wavy lines across the top and bottom of the screen when I watch DVD's in wide format and there are Black strips on the top and bottom of the screen. I also get wavy lines when I watch regular Direct TV when the screen sometimes has Balck areas on the top or bottom. I've done everything from changing cables, to routing power cords separate from signal cables, but no luck. I'm using single component cable for video from my receiver and DVD/satellite connect to my receiver. I have also tried all settings on the TV. I'd appreciate your help as the wavy jittery lines are very noticeable sometimes. I also sometimes get artifacts around images on the screen (mostly people's faces), but that's a separate problem. :) Thanks, farzam@aol.com
- Please explain the main differences between the Panasonic TH-42PD25U/P vs. TH-42PX25U/P. I'm trying to decide whether the audio, HDTV and screen resolution differences are really worth the 50%+ price difference. Thank you.
- The info on the TH-50PX25U/P claims to do both HD and ED is this true does the screen display DTV signal with good quality or is this just a HDTV. Thank You
- I recently purchased the Panasonic TH-42PWD6UY, I have read other questions and answers but am still having trouble with something. When I disconnect my composite video cables from my DirecTV, and then connect my DVD with the component cables into the correct connection terminal board, I get sound, but no picture. I have cycled through all of the Inputs, and still have no picture, what am I doing wrong?
- What are the differences between model TH-42PA25 and model TH-42PD25. Someone said TH-42PA25 is just a regular TV, model TH-PD25 is a EDTV. Please help explain. Thanks
- I recently just purchased the Panasonic TH-42PD25U/P. I have a digital cable box and the Toshiba SD-H400, which comes with Tivo basic. I have read that Panasonics are not best viewed using S-video. However, the installer hooked the plasma set up to the S- video connection. At this point I am trying to decide which connection is going to give me the best picture for watching digital cable. So I have two questions. The first is do I need the cable box (the installer said i did) and the second is should i be using the composite or HDMI connection? Thank you!
- I read that the 42px25 does not accept 720p. Is the same true of the 50phd6uy and 50 phd7uy? Do they show 720p hd cable broadcast as 720p or do they have to convert the signal?
- I'm torn between the new commercial model 42PWD7UY and the existing consumer model 42PD25UP. Picture-wise, is there a difference? Thx.

Most manufacturers release new or replacement products every year. I would expect something new at the end of this year. I do not know of anything new at this time.

S-video is generally the best connection for most satellite sources. However, the Panasonic models have been notorious for having poor picture through the s-video. I would try the composite input with the proper BNC connector. If you satellite receiver has component outputs, I would highly suggest using those first.

Wavy lines are sometimes a symptom of bad power. You may want to try a good power line conditioner to stabilize the power input to the plasma.

The PD series is EDTV while the PX series is HDTV. That is the only major difference. It is up to you if the performance is worth the additional cost.

- The info on the TH-50PX25U/P claims to do both HD and ED is this true does the screen display DTV signal with good quality or is this just a HDTV. Thank You
All 50" plasmas are native to HDTV resolutions. This model performs well at displaying both an EDTV and HDTV signal.

This is a little difficult to troubleshoot based on the information you have told me. I would double check the component cables and the BNC connections at the plasma. There may be a menu to select component for the output from your DVD player.

I am not aware of a TH42PA25, there was a TH42PA20UP model that was replaced by the TH42PD25UP. The replacement model added an ATSC tuner and cable card reader.

You will require the cable box. Use the appropriate connection in order from best to worst. HDMI, DVI, Component, Composite, S-video. This is for Panasonic, the s-video usually appears worse than the composite.

Panasonic's Consumer division decided not to support 720p on their plasmas. The Commercial division did not make the same decision. One can typically set the output signal of the HD source to be either 720p, 1080i or native. So, if you have an consumer panasonic HD plasma, set your output to 1080i.

There is very little difference in the picture from both of these plasmas. The 42PWD7UY is slightly brighter in the dynamic setting.
