- I just purchased a Panasonic TH-42WDUY. Then playing DVD's I get black bars on the top and bottom of the screen unless I use 'Zoom' for the aspect. I read your information on this and also the Widescreen Forum's. You both state that Widescreen DVD's with aspect ratios of 1.65 to 1.85 should fill up the screen. I have used DVD;s with 1.65 and one with 1.85 and the screen still has black bars. Am I doing something incorrectly in my settings? Is Zoom the only way to fill up the screen? Thanks Marty
- Am ready to purchase a Panasonic monitor. I know they have a terminal board for DVI(HDCP) but I don't think they have one yet for HDMI. Is that correct? And in any case, is one of these types of connections better than the other (in terms of quality of image) for use with the appropriate DVD player? Many thanks.
- I am thinking of buying the Panasonic 42PW6 screen (European model) and need to decide which video board to get. I have DVD player connected via s-video (other option is composite; no component)to home theater receiver. I have choice of satellite box connection to receiverr (component or s-video. Which is better? The receiver has composite, s-video and component out options. Will the 42PW6 work with DVD in s-video connection and satelite in component connection?
- Have you heard of many problems with the Panasonic TH-42PDW6UY in which it overheats and turns itself off? Mine would do it in a room at 80 f and now at 70 f.
- Will be using the TH-37PA20 with digital cable using a HD set top box provided by the cable company. Should I go with the DVI connection or the component connection?
- Which is the better 42" unit, the Panasonic TH-42PA20UP or the JVC PD-42WV74, or are they the same? What are the main differences?
- I am considering buying a TH42PX20U/P. My concern is 720p is avail only via PC. It's my understaning that ESPN HD broadcasts in 720p. If this set can only handle 720p via PC then will such broadcast signals be downgraded to 480? My source will be a SONY SAT HD300 via DVI.
- Thanks for this forum. I've read the press release, but can't tell if there has been any upgrade in the monitor or processing electronics for the new 42PX25UP Model. Is it any different? Also, will Panasonic be introducing an upgrade to the monitor model (42PHD6UY) soon? Thanks.
- Using Aspect ratio (full) on my TH-42PA20UP, it is still stretching the middle part of the screen so that peoples faces appear to be fatter than normal. Isn't it suppose to stretch the outer edges so the middle section appears normal size?? Help!!
- What is the difference between Panasonic's TH-42PX20UP and TH-PX25UP?

That is puzzling. If you are positive you have selected widescreen and it is 1.78, it should fill the screen in normal aspect ratio mode without having to zoom. I would check the settings on the DVD player as some have a letterbox mode that will squeeze the image. As the problem may be in the DVD player.

Panasonic does not currently manufacture an expansion module with HDMI for thier commercial series of plasmas. HDMI should provide a better picture than DVI, although it will only be a minimal improvement as both are digital signals.

Component will offer the best picture quality. You could run the component cables to the A/V receiver and then out to the plasma and use the receiver as the video switch.

I have not heard of this problem. I would contact Panasonic to have your unit diagnosed for problems.

The DVI input should provide you with the best picture over component cables.

Both of these plasmas are very similar as both companies are part of parent company Matsushita. The glass is the same while the electronics are different. Both have a stunning EDTV picture.

The Sony SAT HD300 offer selectable resolution outputs. Keeping it native is always best; however, you can select it to output the signals to 1080i and use your DVI/HDMI inputs for all channels.

I am not aware of any electronic upgrades for the 25 series. The commerical plasmas are introduced during the latter part of the year starting in the fall.

Try switching into the JUST mode instead of FULL. The Just mode will stretch the edges only.
