- I HAVE INHERITED A PLASMA MONITOR AND CAN'T FIGURE OUT IF IT CAN BE USED AS A TV. CAN IT BE RAN OF A STANDARD CABLE BOX TO RECIEVE AUDIO AND VIDEO SIGNAL OR DOES IT HAVE TO BE A DIGITAL BOX FOR THE VIDEO AND A SURROUND SOUND RECIEVER FOR THE AUDIO????
- Want to buy the NEC 42XM2, but is not DVI (or HDMI) HDCP compliant. Is this enough reason not to buy? Is it realistically possible I will be blocked from content some day? Second, the specs says it has 25-pin DVI. What does that mean? Thanks
- I have an NEC42VP4S which is about two monhts old. When i play terrestrial television through my plasma screem the picture is perfect. When I plug my Satellite in the picture appears to 'Ghost' but this is a digital signal and i was under the impression that i shouldn't get 'ghosting' with a digital signal. My service providor has told me that "because my plasma is such a good one, it enhances faults in the satellite broadcast" - Can this be possible?? Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thank you Craig
- I have an NEC PlasmaSync 5000W - 50" Plasma Screen. It was working well for the first 3 month after I purchased it (second hand) but now when I power it on, the led switches from red to green, the cooling fans power on for about 3 seconds then stop, and I get no display whatsoever on the screen. Nothing on the remote will give me a display. Only the green led shows, the fans switch off. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
- I've recently bought a 42" XM2. My question is: What is the best way to connect my Samsung 9500 sat-receiver to the screen? The receiver has one S-VHS and one RGB-scart. Is it RGB-scart to DSUB?
- I have a 61" NEC multisync plasma that was given to me. It has cracked glass and I was wondering what will the repair consist of and if its something I could do myself?
- I have a NEC VP4 . I tried the DVI input from a samsung hd set top box but the panel wont display.
- Does NEC make the Marantz plasma units. High end Video stores are swearing by the Marantz units but there are no reviews and its almost impossible to find one on display. What's the scoop on the 50 inch Marantz or Marantz in General
- I am interested in the NEC42XM2/S for the residential (not the XM2 for comercial) which has just released in Feb 04. How is it compared to the Panasonic? I've read the review you wrote for 50XM3 and the 50PH6UY. Did NEC make any improvements?
- What is the simplest, best cleaning solution to use to clean my plasma TV screen. It has only a few minor smudges, but I want to play it safe. Is it as simple as warm water and soap and a soft cloth?

Without knowing the model of the plasma you inherited, I cannot be explicit in my response. However, all plasmas can be used as a TV with the proper input signal. If there is not a connection for a standard f-type connector, found on your typical coax for cable tv, then most likely, there is not a tuner built into the plasma. If there is, then you can simply run the coax from your cable outlet to the plasma. Otherwise, you would need a tuner for reception, this can come in the form of a vcr, digital cable box or satellite receiver.

NEC has released the XM2/S series which is silver in color and the DVI is HDCP on this model. There is a high potential of having your signal not pass through with the absence of the HDCP in the future.

One will typically find that the digital broadcast is superior to a terrestrial broadcast (unless HD). I have not seen or heard of ghosting from a satellite feed on a plasma. It might be a problem with the cables you are using from the receiver to the plasma.

I would contact NEC's technical support first. It sounds as if the power supply has a problem and it may require some service. Hopefully, you were able to get warranty coverage with your secondhand purchase.

If your XM2 is from the US, it will not accept the scart signal. At least not to my knowledge. I would try the RGB, then next best would be S-video since your satellite receiver does not have component outputs.

- I have a 61" NEC multisync plasma that was given to me. It has cracked glass and I was wondering what will the repair consist of and if its something I could do myself?
It costs more to replace the glass than it does to buy a new one. Plasmas with cracked screens are typically not repaired.

The DVI output on NEC VP4 is not HDCP compliant, so if the signal is being broadcast with the High Definition Copy Protection, then your plasma will not display the signal.

Marantz get the glass for thier plasmas from NEC. The electronic are modified by Marantz to add value.

The silver XM2/S version offer HDCP compliance over the DVI connection. Outside of that change, they are the same.

Try not to use any solution to clean the glass. Especially anything with ammonia. Locate a microfiber cloth from a camera store and use that to clean the glass. Some screens have coatings that can be worn off with abrasive or chemical cleaners.
