- When I go into a store they always try to sell a particular add-on to the plasma TVs. It is an electrical line conditioning device (from Monster - The HTS-1000 Power Bar). This retails for $150. There is this elaborate display setup with a digital meter readout showing what a "typical" elictrical line feed looks like (somewhere about 69) and what it would look like with ethe HTS-1000 conditioning the line feed (about 2). The salesmen all go on and on about what [might] happen when you turn on a tv or a microwave in another room and you'd see your picture go wavy or have snow on the display. They also said that you have to get it at time of purchase prior to plugging it in and use it from the start because if you buy the tv and then the line conditioner later (after the fact) the tv would already be ruined and the line conditioner would have no effect. Is any of this true about the line condition and does one need one of these devices?

63" is the currently largest plasma screen manufactured without using a matrix of multiple screens.

- Hello, Who are the galss manufactures for for plasma and LCD HDTVs? Ray
The glass for most plasmas come from Panasonic, NEC or Fujitsu. I do not know the main supply chain for the large LCD panels.

- FOr online warranty, what happen if the online company goes bankrupt . Do you lose the warranty?
If you purchase your plasma from an authorized reseller/dealer, then the warranty is backed by the manufacturer. Most online resellers/dealer sell a third party warranty such as Philips or Warrantech. The contract is between you and the warranty company and you do not have to worry if the company you purchased the plasma from went out of business. Just make sure you receive all warranty paperwork and verify the seller is authorized by the manufacturer.

The Panasonics do suffer from poor s-video output. If you equipment has a composite out, you could still consider the Panasonic. Otherwise, I would look at the NEC XM2 as an alternative. The Pioneer 433CMX is another option in similar street price and performance.

The pressure of your cat's paws should not cause any damage; however, I would attempt to prevent that action in the future.

The TH37PWD6UY has three usable inputs from the factory, composite, component and PC (which also accepts component). If that is not satisfactory, integrate a video switch box or HT receiver that has multiple inputs.

If the voltage in your home drops below 100V then the unit will most likely shut off or flicker pending how long it remains below 100V. If the power in your home has been stable in the past, I would not worry about power fluctuations. If it is a concern for you, plug your plasma into a UPS to stabilize the power and use a good surge protector for any spikes.

I will periodically call various plasma vendors to test knowledge and overall feel of the company. I have yet to find a plasma vendor in NY that I have been happy with. I would suggest avoiding vendors in the NY area. Always read their policies. You can tell a lot about a company if they have a good return policy.

I have not heard of Medion before.

The purpose of a line conditioner is to regulate or normalize the power to 60Hz, 110V in a step function. Electrical devices that are very sensitive to the input power can benefit from these line conditioners. There is no permanent damage that will occur to a plasma if one is added later. If the power is very "clean" in your home and does not fluctuate, then one will not need a power conditioner. These units will generally offer surge protection as well, measured in Joules. I highly suggest using a surge protector with any electronics.
