- I'm looking into Plasma monitors that can handle PAL as well as NTSC. My question is: can Plasma handle the differing interlaced video fields without a loss of image quality, and (if yes) which multi-standard capable models (Sony, Panasonic, NEC) might handle this best?
- Is it safe to have plasma TV in a bedroom? Does it affect magnetic field, etc.? Thanks.
- I have heard from a salesman that a plasma TV must be transported vertically. What happens with the plasma TV when it is horizontal position?
- A salesman said that the plasma TV must be transported vertically not only to reduce the risk of failure through cracking but most important because after one minute in this position the TV is permanently damaged. Is it true?
- are there any health risks involved with plasma tvs ie the gasses contained within. thanks.
- Does a plasma tv with a built-in satellite receiver exist? My boss wants to hang a 37" flatpanel on the wall in the office, without cable boxes or satellite boxes cluttering up space.
- What's the difference between 1024x1024 and 1024x768? Is one better than the other? Does one display 480p/720p/1080i better than the other?
- What would be a more appropriate output setting for a set top box connected to 1a 1365x768 plasma display, 720p or 1080i? thanks!
- Are there any plasma products on the market that could support the following items I would really like connecting to one? XBox (RGB Scart), Playstation 2 (RGB Scart), GameCube (SVHS and left right audio connections), Output from my PC, DVD player (RGB SCART) and finally viewing of normal daytime televsion. Been doing some internet research but I am really struggling to find a unit that will cater for all my needs. Ideally looking for a 42 or 50 inch unit. Any advice or help to my question would be grately accepted.
- What does the screen look like when not in use? Can you display an image?

They handle interlaced signals very well, I would rate them from best to worse as Sony, Panasonic, Pioneer, NEC.

- Is it safe to have plasma TV in a bedroom? Does it affect magnetic field, etc.? Thanks.
Plasmas are safe in the bedroom and they put out very little EMF.

- I have heard from a salesman that a plasma TV must be transported vertically. What happens with the plasma TV when it is horizontal position?
When the screen is horizontal, the glass has a much greater potential of failure through cracking.

The verticle orientation is to prevent the glass from breaking first and foremost. The duration at which it will crack while laying horizontal is undetermined.

No health risks. The gas does not leak out unless the screen becomes fractured.

There are no televisions, flat panel or not with a built in satellite receiver. I would suggest searching for a plasma with a built in tuner and use analog cable. That will not be the best picture but, it will satisfy the boss.

The 1024 x 1024 is refered to as an ALiS panel and best displays 1080i signals. The 1024x768 is the best compromise for displaying all other signal types with minimal scaling.

I would suggest 720p since there would be less interpolation of the pixels.

One will only find the scart connections in European models not available in the USA.

When a plasma screen is off, it is gray or black, similar to a CRT television when off. Walk into a store and turn one off if you really want to see it off.
