- what are plasma tv's made of? how do they work?
- We would like to put a plasma tv on our fireplace mantle. Ideally, when the tv is NOT being watched, we'd like to have it serve as an art display. Is it possible to run a screen saver on a plasma tv either intermittently or constantly? Can a static picture be programmed to display when the tv is not in use?
- What is the ideal hight for a plasma tv either wall mounted or on a stand?
- I am planning on using a plasma with my computer (mainly computer games and DVDs). Which plasma is best for this or what specs should I look for in the store when buying? Any links you can provide me with concerning this topic?
- I am planning on buying the JVC PD-42WV74. I was told it is very similar in quality to the Panasonic TH-42PA20U. Is it true? If not why?
- Is it normal for Plasma TVs to make a constant noise (coming from the back)?
- I want to purchase a Plasma screen to take to Brazil. I am getting information that Plasmas have to be shipped verticaly and if shipped incorrectly (horizontally) it could get damaged. Once they are opened they have to pass some sort of "tilt test". Is any of this correct, what should I know about shipping this delicate piece of equipment? Also, are there any PAL-M (Brazilian System) Plasmas for sale in the US?
- I've heard that one should not mount a plasma screen face down on a ceiling like seen in a comercial. Does this damage the screen or shorten its life?
- Contrast ratio's are different on 2 Plasma's I am considering. 3000:1 and 900:1. I have read your previous questions and am aware that higher #'s mean truer blacks. However, when I watch both in a retail store I don't see any difference. Should I be concerned? I actually prefer the tv with the 900:1 instead of 3000:1
- I have 2 CPU inputs and want to connect this to the plasma, I want to be able to view both PC's simultaneously or individually. Can plasma's do this and are seperate divices needed to make this happen?

Some plasma screens have a screen saver built-in. In order to accomplish what you want, you will have to have it connected to a PC with the screen saver program and images. Although it is possible, I would not recommend displaying a static image for longer than a few minutes at a time.

- What is the ideal hight for a plasma tv either wall mounted or on a stand?
That depends on the individual. I like the middle of the screen to be slightly above my eye level in my normal viewing position.

Most any plasma will work for your application. You will want to make sure it has a pc input, VGA or DVI. I would also make sure you turn on the pixel rotation option when gaming or using the pc as static images can cause burn-in. You will also want to look at the native resolution of the plasma to match your computer resolutions.

Both models appear to have very similar specifications and features.

A buzz or humming can be heard from most plasmas if you are right next to them. The sound stems from a fan or the transformers.

The plasmas should be shipped vertically in order to prevent the screen from cracking. You should be able to find a commercial plasma that supports PAL-M for use in other countries.

Gravity is the detrimental force in play that can cause one of two things. There is a chance that the phosphor coating in each individual pixel can come off causing the pixel to become dead. Another problem is from the properties of glass. Glass is extremely strong when force is applied under compression, while extremely weak when the forces are applied under tension. When the plasma is mounted face down, the glass is in a state of tension from gravity and the mass of electronics behind the glass. This mass can apply enough force to cause the glass to crack.

The are settings on the Plasma other than just the contrast. In a show room, these can be adjusted to make one appear brighter or have a color shift if the dealer is trying to make one appear better than the other. Try to reset the Plasma to the factory defaults, although this is not ideal, it should be a better comparison. A professional calibration will always yield the best picture.

You will need to find a plasma with mulitple PC inputs, commonly available on most commercial models. Then make sure it can do POP or split screen.
