- what is contrast ratio in plasma technology?
- I've heard that displaying non-HDTV broadcasts in a non-distorted format (4:3 aspect ratio) burns in the center of the screen. Is there any way to prevent that and still see non-HDTV images without distortion? E.g., can the picture be moved every so often?
- Can you clean a plasma screen? If so, how and with what product?
- What is the *REAL* difference between a commercial plasma vs. a residential plasma? That is FCC Class A EMI/EMC vs. FCC Class B? The commercial plasmas are less expensive, but does that mean that it will interfere with remotes, other electronics in the house, whole house audio and video distribution, etc.? Thank you, Glen
- what does plasma have to do with the television?
- How can I reduce the glare on my plasma tv because it is installed outdoors?
- If I have a home theater set with 6 speakers and cable tv hookup, would I purchase a plasma televsion or a plasma monitor?
- I work for a moving company in Boston. How will the cold weather affect a plasma tv screen? Do they have to be kept in a vertical orientation during the move? Any other moving suggestions?
- Is there a best time of the year to get the best deal on a plasma TV? When do new models usually come out?
- I have been told by a salesperson (UK) that plasmas with tuners, made for consumer market, are required to be built to higher specs (eg percentage of pixel dropout allowed) than the tunerless displays aimed at commercial market. Is this true?

Contrast ratio is the measure of the difference between the white and black level. The higher the number, the better performance.

Watching 4:3 material without stretching the picture could cause burn-in of the pillars on the sides. There are modes to rotate the pixels; however, that would not be effective with out stretching the image.

Treat the screen like a camera lens, cleaning should be performed using only 100% cotton clothes or microfiber clothes. Do not use anything cleaners with ammonia.

The differences between the consumer and commercial models are in general, the following: FCC Class rating, (I have not heard of anyone having interference when using a Class B model in a residence) NTSC tuners are not included on commercial models. The type of connectors and number of connectors are typically going to vary.

- what does plasma have to do with the television?
Plasma gas is the main element of the plasma display which can be used as a television.

- How can I reduce the glare on my plasma tv because it is installed outdoors?
Keeping direct sunlight off the screen is the best method to reduce the glare as most plasmas have an anti-reflective coating on the glass.

- If I have a home theater set with 6 speakers and cable tv hookup, would I purchase a plasma televsion or a plasma monitor?
Monitor and television are commonly interchangeable terms. In general, a television is referenced when the display has speakers and a monitor is used when it does not. If you have digital cable you would not require a unit with a tuner, otherwise, you could use a tuner found in a vcr.

- I work for a moving company in Boston. How will the cold weather affect a plasma tv screen? Do they have to be kept in a vertical orientation during the move? Any other moving suggestions?
The cold weather will not damage the units while not in operation. The operating range of most plasmas is from 32 degrees to 105 degrees. The plasma screens should be kept vertical at all times. I would suggest using the original shipping containers.
