- who makes the ESA 42" plasma tv model pdp4294lv marketed and sold by circuit city
- Dell has just come out with a line of plasma tv's. I noticed your site hasn't reviewed Dell yet. I was wondering how their TV's stacked up against the more established companies like Panosonic. Dell's TV's are considerably cheaper and seem to have the same specs. Is there something I'm missing or are these Dell TV's really a good deal. Specificlly I'm interested in the Dell W4200 42" HDTV Plasma TV. Any advice or review of Dell's TV's would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, and this is a great site.
- I'm set to make a purchase one month from now. I've narrowed my choices to the Sharp AQUOS LC-45GD6U or Panasonic Plasma TV TH42PX25UP. I will be using Dish Network HD and plan on puchasing a dvd player with HDMI. I also want this tv to give me a good quality picture for non-HD digital channels. I will use the HDMI input to connect the dvd player(Sony - DVPNS975V/HDMI Interface. The resolution for Sharp is 1920 x 1080,contrast/ 800:1. The Panasonic resolution is 1024 X 768, contrast/Up to 3000:1. I'm aware of the big difference in contrast. They both looked great at the store (ABT Electronics),and Idon't care that the Panasonic doesn't have built in speakers. Which will give me The best HD, NON-HD DIGITAL, AND DVD picture? Thanks in advance, I love your site! I'd love to see a LCD FORUM.
- IS ED or HD better for gaming? I have X-box and Playstation 2. Thanks.
- I have been tasked with finding a 50" plasma tv that can be mounted in a cabinet and rolled out when needed and rolled back away when done. I have heard that you should not move plasma tv's around. Is this true and what are your suggestions?

The Dell and Gateway models are rebranded Samsungs which are inferior to the Panasonics I have tested in the past.

I tend to prefer the picture on plasmas better in general. The blacks will look better on the plasma, however the contrast ratios are measured differently between the two technologies so it is not quite a glaring difference as one might expect. In the end it is always personal preference. The Sharp boasts a much higher resolution than the Panasonic. So it will be a choice of trade offs on your picture preferences.

Ideally in any situation, you attempt to match signal resolution to the native panel resolution. I believe the PS2 supports 480p only while Xbox offers 720p. So, the PS2 would look better on an EDTV and the Xbox would look better on an HDTV plasma.

Plasma are relatively fragile in nature so limiting the movement is desirable. If you have to move it, I would suggest an articulating mount or rolling cart designed for plasmas.
