- I use a Tivo DVR with digital cable for most of my TV viewing (either delayed live or recorded shows). On my old tube TV I notice very little degredation in the picture quality from shows processed through Tivo. Can I expect to see a significant differnce between the picture quality on a plasma TV when using Tivo or other DVR compared to a direct digital cable connection? Thank you.
- I'd like to know more about HDCP broadcast flags - I've read a short explanation that all output devices (HD plasmas) will need this capability built-in, in the future, in order prevent a HD signal from being "dumbed down." I'd be really bummed if I bought an expensive 50" plasma this year, and next year I couldn't display HD because it lacked the HDCP capability to recognize this "flag." I also read that if such "equipment" is purchased before July '05, without this HDCP capability, then the equipment would be able to "ignore the broadcast flag, and display the HD signal just fine. There seems to be a contradiction here, something's confused, especially me, and I was hoping you could help clarify this so I don't make a mistake in my expensive purchase. BTW, I read this at http://www.16nine.com/ (last item in column #1, labeled "Broadcast Flags") I'm looking at the Panasonic TH-50PHD7UY, which only seems to provide the HDCP with the [optional] DVI port plugin. Is this correct
- Do LCD and Plasma displays have any restrictions with regard to NTSC and PAL playback? For example, can I use my US purchased LCD/Plasma with either a US Cable connection as the tuner, and a Australian Foxtel Cable connection as a tuner? Or do I need a display that comes with a dual tuner?
- I would like to permanently mount a 42” plasma display in mobile trailer for PowerPoint presentations. Will the unit be damaged by the frequent movement [cross country]? Is burn-in a problem?
- I'm opening a restaurant and have been "advised" by some to make sure I use a commercial model. Others have told me that there's "no difference". What are your thoughts?
- We are considering purchasing a 42" plasma monitor/TV for a retail showroom to connect to a PC to use for presentrations and websurfing as well as stand-alone TV and DVD playback. Will a plasma screen work for this? if so, does it require any hardware (i.e. switch box, etc). thanks!
- I'd like to purchase either the 37 or 42" Panasonic, but was curious if there are any plasma TVs w/ integrated DVD players. Thanks!
- Can we leave our plasma tv in our cabin for four or five months in the winter with no heat. Temperatures could reach -5 or -10 Fahrenheit for short periods. would mostly be in the+15 to +20 Fahrenheit. What about a LCD TV ?
- Do you have an opinion on the new HP plasma tvs. Is it their own technology or just a rebranded unit.
- My company is in the process of designing a hotel and developing a program that includes suites with Plasma TVs. I'm looking for information to help us determine the maximum "clean" viewing angle to a plasma. Our suites are somewhat long and we want to be sure all seating areas can see the plasma clearly. Any information you have in regards to different plasma sizes to viewing rations and angles would be greatly appreciated! Your site is very informative and answered a lot of my other questions! Thank you!!

A plasma will look better than a CRT for all signals regardless of source.

HDCP is only a concern for digital inputs/outputs which are currently only the DVI and HDMI. Therefore, that is why you only saw this regarding the DVI and HDMI inputs for the Panasonic plasma.

Yes. Every TV manufactured will have different specifications, such as video system playback. You will have to look at each tv you are interested in to determine which video playback systems they are compatible. Typically, the commercial version units will be multisystem and consumer versions will be NTSC.

The plasma should be mounted in a vertical position in order to help prevent any damage to the glass from the vibrations and any impact loads applied to it from the road. Burn-in has become less and less of a problem with each new generation. However, if you are continuously displaying the same image contastly, you may want to look at LCDs as an alternative.

- I'm opening a restaurant and have been "advised" by some to make sure I use a commercial model. Others have told me that there's "no difference". What are your thoughts?
You may want to look at it from a warranty standpoint. Some manufacturer's have very strict rules regarding the use of a consumer plasma in a commercial environment. Some manufacturer's do not have strict rules. Performance wise, there is typically very little difference in the picture quality between a consumer and commercial model.

Your connections would solely depend on the TV. Some plasmas have plenty of inputs as well as PC inputs. Any good sales person should be able to suggest a plasma to fit all of your needs without a switch box.

I am not aware of any plasmas with integrated DVD players.

I could not locate any type of standard storage specifications for any manufacturer of plamsa or LCDs. You may want to just contact the manufacturer directly. The operating range is typically from 32 to 104 degrees F.

I have not seen them yet, but my expectation like many others like Dell, is that HP is rebranding another model.

Most plasmas have a viewing angle of 160 degrees or better. Manufacturers do not post vertical viewing angles; however, plasmas exceed there also.
