Digital television, or DTV, is the new industry standard for broadcasting picture and sound using digital signals, allowing for dramatic improvements in both picture and sound quality vs. conventional NTSC analog programming. DTV programming can be delivered in either of two basic formats: Standard definition digital TV or high definition (HDTV). HDTV signals vary between 720 progressive and 1080 interlaced. Fox puts out an HDTV signal at 480p, while CBS puts out an HDTV signal at 1080i. The better the signal, the more bandwidth the network has to provide and thus the more expensive
