Panasonic Viera TC-P50S1

Plasma TV Buying Guide Comments

The 50" version of the new S1 series from Panasonic the TC-P50S1 will ship in March or April of 2009 while the larger models will not arrive until summer of 2009. This Viera plasma includes the new NEO plasma display panel with improved blacks and contrast of 40,000:1. It also has 1080p resolution and the THX certification along with 600Hz sub-field drive and Gaming Mode.

It does not have the super thin depth of some of the new TVs by Panasonic and others but that will save you on cost and unless you are wall mounting the plasma TV, the assumed depth of 3.5 to 4" is not cumbersome. Though this is not a value play offering with the THX certification it should come in at a reasonable cost. The feature that this plasma offering is lacking compared with its higher priced counterparts is the new Panasoinc Viera Cast internal software which allows compatibility with Amazon's video rental platform called Amazon Video On Demand.
