LG 50PM9700 Review
50" 3D Plasma TV with Smart TV
The 50PM9700 is the top tier in plasma televisions from LG for 2012. The PM9700 series is active 3D unlike LG's LED televisions which utilize LG's Cinema 3D passive 3D technology. It also has the full Smart TV online suite that is contained in the top tier LED televisions.
Picture and Viewing Feaures
The picture quality on the 2012 LG plasmas has improved significantly over the previous model plasmas. The 50PM9700 has a new black filter that has improved the black levels and contrast. Inky blacks improve a television's picture in more ways that just dark scenes. Better blacks and contrast improve color performance and picture depth.
LG's 2012 plasmas have a new matte screen that cuts down on glare, this is a fairly common feature in LCD and LED televisions but it is rare to see on a plasma. Matte screens often interfere with the depth of a picture but on the 50PM9700 we didn't notice this detrimental effect.
With active 3D the PM9700 shows full HD to each eye with 3D content. Only active 3D can show 1080 lines of vertical resolution to each eye and the detail really shows with 3D content. There wa little cross talk and images jumped off the screen or appeared deep inside it when we viewed 3D content on the 50LM9700
The 50PM9700 looks excellent, the black brushed aluminum frame doesn't distract with reflected light and gives the LM9700 a classy, refined look.
Internet Applications and Connectivity
The Smart TV dashboard contained on the TV menu screen allowing for selection of TV Live, Premium Content, TV Apps, and a Launch Bar. The LG PM9700 series has LGs new Smart TV Internet TV features meaning that will be able to access all of LG's Internet Apps. Some of the highlighted Internet TV providers are Netflix, Vudu, Cinema Now, You Tube, Hulu Plus. But in addition this year it looks like there will be several partners in the sports industry to stream live sports programming, allowing viewers to follow their favorite teams, stream in HD quality broadcasts, and generally be able to tailor their sports viewing more to their own preferences. More options equal more satisfaction right?
